Totally agree with all your comments - I was shouting at the telly at that idiot husband (I hope he feels absolutely ASHAMED of himself when he watches it back), and in contrast I completely fell in love with that wonderful mother of baby Jack who just seemed so bright and positive even in the face of what would completely floor most of us.

And yes, that midwife drove me nuts, even the way she introduced herself on the phone was irritating me beyond distraction by the end. There's no way I could have endured her at my birth. I realise I sound very mean saying this as clearly she was very 'nice' and I'm sure extremely capable at her job etc, but that overly jolly wacky-woo thing just leaves me cold...

just watched it on sky plus. am soooo glad am not hte only one who found that midwife both amazing and irritating.

also couldn't believe the water birth and wish there'd been more on that, found it v interesting. Seeing her little baby was the most emotional I've been in watching this series as he really reminded me of mine as a newborn. And also found the bit where they were calmly reviving that newborn gripping - wasn't quite sure what was going on exactly? It's quite odd how they do the playback of the labour over the ensuing scenes, or at least I think that's what was happening ie references to induction? Think the husband just lost it. He seemed ok before and after (albeit slightly like a character from The Office). But yes couldnt' believe reference to her low pain threshold!! He obviously had an inferiority thing about being her birth partner as kept making points about how useless he was etc. When he said they'd prob talk to him differently if he was a woman who'd had kids, I did think 'well, yes, with good reason!'. Ah well - was nice all happy endings.

WOW, just managed to watch Tuesday's episode and was also in tears before the programme actually started! Lisa is such a brave, strong woman, and only 22. She was going through such turmoil but still managed to be eloquent and amusing, very likeable girl.

Yep, the water birth was very interesting and quick, and silent!

Think the partner of the woman who was determined to have a VBAC came good in the end and though he said some apalling things, I think he was frustrated and tired (of course, not as much as the brilliant mum), but was being a complete pain in the ar*e at times. And wow, when they were helping the newborn to breathe they all seemed so calm, even the parents - or maybe they were in shock - I was on the edge of my seat.

The midwife was a wierd combo of being annoying and amazing I thought. I think her forced jollity would have driven me mad but at the same time I would feel she was totally in control and knew what she was doing, which is what you want.

Once again, I am extremely impressed and grateful for the wonderful work that midwives do.

I just managed to watch episode 3, riveting as always.

You know, I think that idiot husband was letting out his own stress and worry when he was giving his wife a hard time, but I did want to slap him! Of all the things to say to a woman in the middle of her labour, I don't think that a single word that left his mouth during that time was helpful. I thought his wife dealt with it amazingly well, no idea how she stayed in the right 'head space' with him carrying on like that. I think women how have VBAC are probably some of the bravest, she did amazingly well. So glad the little man was eventually OK - it was so scary to see him so floppy. In her early labour when she was at home and swaying her hips it reminded me of my first labour - hubby told me it reminded him of elephants he'd seen giving birth in Africa....err thanks then! It made the midwife laugh at the time! Luckily I knew how he meant it so didn't take offence.

The water birth was amazing - that is a lot what my 2nd birth was like, in terms of being very quiet and relaxed. Seeing how shaky she was afterwards reminded me of being like that after No.1, but I wasn't after my 2nd.

Interesting to read some of the comments where you are amazed by how quiet that birth was as equally I am amazed by how loud some of them are! It never ceases to amaze me how different births can be.

Yet again I am thanking nature that I had 2 girls with smaller than average heads, which I am sure is partly why I had fairly easy births.

I hope they show some more natural/easy births though as I feel at the moment the slant is a bit towards harder births or baby's that come out needing some attention/help to get going.

That midwife was a strange old mix wasn't she. Her heart was in the right place though I think, and when the head was coming I thought she was fab - the comment "it stings like mad doesn't it" and "its the ring of fire" made me laugh!

Molly

Mrs Keef and I watched this last week for the first time.

The bloke was a c**t, please excuse my language, but he was. Yes it can be frustrating for the man, and yes you're very tired if you've been there a couple of days, but FFS, who speaks to someone like that, let alone someone you love, who is having your child!

By the way, did anyone see that thing on before this, with that Horrific Jo somebody "super nanny"?

What an absolute fecking pile of sh!te. This woman is visiting a family with a child with ADHD, and rather than having a child psychologist see him, they get this silly cow! I don't know what is worse, the fact this woman gets paid for her nonsense, or the fact that people actually let her near their children!

I turned off after 5 minutes.

Sorry if I've offended, but with that super nanny woman, I genuinely think that it is dangerous to have someone like her, with no proper qualifications, telling a family how to deal with a child with behavioural issues.

TV should be more responsible. It's like giving airtime to "Dr" (certificate bought on the net) Gillian McKeith, people respect what she's saying, because they think she's a doctor on telly, so can be trusted. It's the same with this super nanny, people think that because she's on telly, she is some expert in child behaviour, and I find that scary.

Anyway, I've gone off topic. One born every minute, on tonight.

Apparently she's got 20 years childcare experience, and I dare say she may hold some qualification as a nanny, but I still don't think that qualifies her to speak with conviction about behavioural needs. That is the realm of the qualified psychologist IMO.

Plus the fact she just annoys me ;-)

I believe the child was properly diagnosed by qualified psychologists, but that doesn't mean they come home with you and help with the daily issues of living. They just diagnose, and if you're lucky, refer you to the next agency so you can be put on a waiting list. They clearly needed help and sadly, there is not much support for these families.

On the other hand, I know a few people I'd like the Supernanny to go sort out, frankly.

Ooooh, that birth was good wasn't it, even if Mum was off her face on the gas & air!!!

I thought the sister was fab. Bit emotional now.....come on Joy, just need her baby to finally put in an appearance to round the programme off nicely.

Edited to say.....Joy and Fabio's little girl was just beautiful. I loved seeing her birth and hearing their interview afterwards. I'm so happy that they finally got to have a baby, and to see Joy 'joyful' at last.

M

Ahhhhh, big happy sigh . . .

I wish mine came out as easily as the lady having her 5th. I loved that new midwife too - did you see her incredulous expression when she was being shown the chart & told that "we expect women to dilate 1cm an hour and if they don't then we consider taking some action" - a classic. I wonder if she'll find the restrictions of a big CLU hard after coming from a birth centre?

Lovely episode, not stressful for a change, the lady having her fifth was really funny with the gas and air, basically breathing just gas and air the whole time, it seemed to work for her though! It was just so, so quick after the waters broke, amazing.

The babies were gorgeous, as ever.

Felt really sorry for Joy, all those days in early labour with no progress and she had to have a C-section. It was good to see her looking lovely and being cheerful at the end - presumably back at home, a bit of lipgloss and a blow-dry can work wonders!

It was a lovely episode indeed. I loved how Joy was eating the petit filous herself and Fabio was so patient with everything and just stood by her the entire time. Also loved how the husband of the woman having her 5th didn't say a word throughout, but was very emotional when his daughter was born. I too had tears when both babies were born.

I laughed at that too, poor bloke it was a long haul for him too. Also when he was cluelessly looking for appropriate baby clothes. It was lovely to see them at home afterwards enjoying their baby, it put the whole wxperience into perspective.

I also liked the new midwife who I thought had a lovely calming manner. A very wll made programme in my opinion.

LOL - Keef - I was waiting for Joy to shout at Fabio when he was messing around with the chair trying to get it to recline, was amazed when she didn't given previous outbursts.

Loved it when they were arguing over the name too - with him saying all Thai names sound stupid and her saying most Italian ones do.......and then the surgeon asked the name and thought Joy said Elvis! Classic.

Molly

PMSL at poor Fabio in the chair hotching forward, and again, and again with Joy huffing at him from the bed. And the bit with the baby clothes, they were just such a tele-genic coupe all through really. And just lovely together after such a long and stressful induction. I was impressed Joy got as far as she did without pain relief given her horrible situation - she was a star. And, Elvis! OMG, so funny.

my husband reckons joy and fabio should have their own show...thought it was sweet when later on (prob after epidural kicked in) she was much nicer to him and said he'd been a great birth partner - he was v resourceful I thought. Also agree she looked lovely in the 'after' interview, they were both so happy it was lovely. One of the best things about the programme is how they give you the background, it's really interesting.

did anyone else notice Fabio reading that Woodworker magazine?? was just perfect comic touch, agree the editing is genius.
