"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive . . .' And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming, 'Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?'"

The Vegas trip is end of May. But to answer that (and in order): a blue spotted sting ray, a bright green frog fish, shoals of long thin cornetfish and a 2m long manta ray. Like Hunter, it blew my mind. But back to the subject of Snow watch....will Peter Snow be dusted off for the next election with a newly enhanced swingometer?

Mr Ben

Have you been lickin' toads ?

THEM TOAD SUCKERS

How 'bout them toad suckers, ain't they clods?

Sittin' there suckin' them green toady-frogs.

Suckin' them hop-toads, suckin' them chunkers,

Suckin' them leapy-types, suckin' them plunkers.

Look at them toad suckers, ain't they snappy?

Suckin' them bog-frogs sure makes 'em happy.

Them hugger-mugger toad suckers, way down south,

Stickin' them sucky-toads in they mouth.

How to be a toad sucker? No way to duck it.

Gittchyseff a toad, rear back and suck it!

    • That explanation sounds highly unlikely!  Surely the "days of the week" plates must be a standard size. I know Royal Mail often appears incompetent, but it  couldn't be that stupid, surely. Was it 1 April?!
    • Looking for a short length of electric (twin & earth)  lighting cable. Most likely there could be some in a skip near you??
    • Southwark's recycling guidance says to put shredded paper in the blue bin in a paper envelope or "small box". I've got far too much of it for that  (confidential stuff going back decades) - thanks to the EDF member who kindly gave me a shredder! It would be a "massive box". I have barely started  the shredding, and I've already got an extremely large bagful.   I've read online that you can put it into  large clear plastic bags in the bin for paper,  provided you  clearly label it "shredded paper" and it is obvious what it is. Does anybody know if Southwark would accept it like that? Alternatively, can anyone make use of it for animal bedding or packaging material or adding to  compost?
    • I'm happy to report that some foxgloves are now looking great in my garden. The bees are loving them. Also managed to grow some corn poppies from seed. I've left some decaying logs in the corner so maybe there are some stag beetles there.
