Rosie H
I've noticed that a new building has gone up on Barry Road. It's set back a little from the road, and is near the the junction with Upland Road.Does anybody know what this building will be used for? Many thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9880-new-building-on-barry-road-nr-junction-with-upland-road/ Share on other sites
EDKiwi
If it's on the old Dulwich Van site (next to the Barry Offie) I have heard they are new apartments. James Barber
Hi Rosie H,Do you mean the old timber yard?If so the site was due to be cleared last week and building works on family homes started. Pearson
I was surprised they managed to obtain planning permission to knock the original Victorian building down in order to make way for the new build. skidmarks
If the building is not in a conservation area or listed it is easy to have them knocked down. It?s a shame though, it was a good substantial building and being replaced with something nondescript Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9880-new-building-on-barry-road-nr-junction-with-upland-road/#findComment-293927 Share on other sites
Chase Dulwit
At least fourteen flats I think. But looks like they will get guaranteed parking close to where they live. LegalEagle-ish
Lol, that was what i thought when I read Steve T's post. Thankfully no one has risen to his bait this time - well so far they haven't. Probably because TLS is banned! thexwinglessxbird
Well I hope it'll look good, that's all I can say. It just seems so sad to think of beautiful original victorian buidlings being wiped out. I live just off Upland Rd, close to where this is happening, but rarely visit Barry Rd unless I'm catching a bus, there I can see the work taking place. I don't know what it's looking like now... chichirara
I think its 8 2 bed flats at the front and 4 "mews" houses at the back all with parking spaces on site. planning permission was granted way back, and they waited ages before starting work. It is a great shame to see the old house demolished. Barry Rhode
It's going to be some modern build, gated monstrosity, completely out of keeping with the area Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9880-new-building-on-barry-road-nr-junction-with-upland-road/#findComment-303668 Share on other sites

tiddles
all I know is the houses in the development at the back have unbelievably steep roofs - well above what they asthetically should be - didn't get the planning permission that they thought they could push thro for loft rooms I believe (could be wrong so apologies if so) I really wonder if planners can actually read drawings sometimes - there are so many cases of bizarre permissions and equally bizarre refusals. chichirara
They are being developed by the man who owned the garage who is called Barry! All 8 flats and 4 houses are for rent. Try Foxtons, Tiddles you are not wrong Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9880-new-building-on-barry-road-nr-junction-with-upland-road/#findComment-327492 Share on other sites
newbie09
I have to say that I am surprised at how good the new builds actually look, I expected the usual modern towerblock style complex but they are actually quite tasteful and the windows looks really tasteful copies of original timber sash unlike the normal tacky PVC ones.
