tallgirl
I was horrified to discover that Southwark council want to build houses on the playground of Brayards estate in Nunhead. As well as loosing an area for the kids to play on, trees will also go. There are a few large and magnificent trees there, which means that residents in the two towerblocks currently look out on greenery. The whole idea of leaving some communal space near towerblocks was to give residents some space. This is falling under the Hidden Homes scheme-which is meant to develop unused sites-however residents on the Brayards estate what to have a new play area as the current one needs updating and also an gardening/planting area for residents to use.How can this land be classified in the same way as eg an empty basement? I think this is appalling. After much protest by local residents similar plans were thrown out by Planning a few years ago. The current proposals haven't even gone to the Planning dept, but the council have an exhibition at St Mary's Church Hall basement on St Mary's Rd Nunhead SE15, from 1-4pm tomorrow the 6th Sept (go along if you can!). The whole idea of doing this is such a built up area is disgraceful, generation of familes will suffer if this goes ahead. I spoke to one of my local Councillors, Fiona Colley about this, she and the other Labour Councillors representing Nunhead are vehemently opposed to the plans.
