Hi,

After deciding we were definitely going to go down the nursery route, I've found that we are too low down our preferred nursery lists and so we may look to hire a nanny after all!

I am still quite nervous about this though having seen some nannies in action and hearing about some of the things that can go wrong. So, I would love to get some advice about how to find a good nanny!

We're looking for someone to start in June for 3-3.5 days per week to look after our 1 year old son. We're new to this game but looking for someone with the right qualifications who will really care for our son and look to aid his development.

Would people mind sharing experiences about agencies they used/how they found using the forum?

Any advice is really appreciated!!

Thank you.

We found our nanny through childcare.co.uk - you need to create a profile with your requirements and then interested nannies can contact you about the position or you can browe nanny profiles and contact them direct. It seems to be a popular site. I've also heard good things about nannyshare.co.uk if you plan to go down the nanny share route.
We found our last nanny - who was absolutely wonderful and stayed with us for three years - through gumtree. This time round I'm not having much luck with gumtree but have registered with a few agencies instead (imperial, kensington and the london nanny company - kensington have been the most proactive so far). They have sent me details of some lovely nannnies and I think we're almost there with one of them. Happy to answer any more questions by PM.

We have a nanny who is beyond brilliant - we found her through Simply Childcare 3 years ago.

Her sister is also a nanny and she is actually looking for a new role - I can't remember the exact timing but if you PM me your email address I could ask her to send you her CV if it sounds like the timing may work out.

    • Yes, registered and now marked as stolen on Bike Register. Thanks for saying about gumtree. Had forgotten about that, scouring Facebook and eBay currently.
    • I hope you had it marked on the bike register.  Many stolen bikes end up on Gumtree (mine did) so check listings. https://www.gumtree.com/for-sale/sports-leisure-travel/bicycles/uk/srpsearch+condor  if the listings is a copy and paste from the bike company website that is almost definitely stolen, or details are scant.  When they talk about how long they had the bike, the sort of journeys, what they have done to maintain and improve it etc they will be genuine. I've got no advice on how to do a sting and get it back,

    • Aria stopped a water leak in our toilet and then replaced it quickly and efficiently just before Christmas. This is the second job he’s done for us and we’re very happy with both. I can recommend Aria to anyone needing a plumber.
