i would like to recommend Norwood Roofing. We had a problem with water getting in through a 1st floor sash window immediately under a loft extension French window. E-mailed David from Norwood Roofing and he came later the same day. Explained the problem to him and also asked him to have a look at the rest of the roof. He identified the problem with the leak and explained what needed doing and also found a few other areas of the roof (parapet pointing, flashing and guttering) that, from the photos he took, clearly needed attention. Confident he did not suggest anything that did not need addressing: he said that most of the roof is fine. They arrived 07.30 on an agreed day so I could leave for work and hand over the keys (and I was happy to do that). By end of day all work done and photos as proof. Seems to be a good job: impressed and would recommend.

I contacted Norwood Roofing after reading these recommendations and I am very pleased to report that David O Donnell and his team arranged to come round about an hour after my initial call, looked at the situation as thoroughly as they could and clearly explained exactly what needed doing.

Dave fitted us in very quickly, turned up exactly when he said they would and everyone was very cheerful and efficient. They provided clear photos of the work before and after, showing very clearly what needed to be done and what was done. The job was done in good time and they took good care to tidy up afterwards.

I am very happy to recommend Dave and his team at Norwood Roofing.

Can also recommend David O?Donnell and his team from Norwood Roofing. They were helpful, friendly and efficient and left everything tidy. David came round the day I called about a roof leak between the main house and small extension; he fitted us in the following week to replace the lead flashing. (He advised replacing the flashing as it had clearly been repaired already several times).
After all the crazy thunderstorms and rain we called on David and his team to save the day! He was extremely efficient and was at the premises within the hour. Dealt with my neighbour in a civil manner and fixed the problem before the next deluge. Totally pleased and will definitely recommend him big time.Thank you David.

Another thumbs up for Norwood Roofing, who I contacted - on the strength of EDF recommendations - when water started pouring out of one of our rear gutters. They arrived when they said they would, were cheerful and polite, did the job (replacing the gutter, unblocking a downpipe, repointing brickwork) quickly, without any fuss and cleared up thoroughly after themselves. People told me this sort of work was likely to be very expensive but a bit of research confirmed that what we paid was fair, and the work has a 10-year guarantee. I couldn't rate David and his colleagues more highly.

Yet another thumbs up from me on David and his team at Norwood Roofing, who I also contacted on the strength of EDF recommendations.

Only the most positive things to say about David O'Donnell and his team at Norwood Roofing. Great guys - on time, great quality of work, efficient, value for money and left the place spotless.

Another recommendation for David and Norwood Roofing. We've had a persistent leak from a back first floor window into the room below due to a gutter overflowing. David and team came out, diagnosed the problem, fitted new larger guttering and even sealed the damaged window sill for me.

Arrived when they said they would and cleaned up when they left, and our leak is solved. I definitely recommend them.

Another recommendation for Norwood Roofing, who replaced some guttering and cleared another section for me. Gave me some very useful advice on following up about a related issue. David and his assistant were on time, did the work well, then tidied up after themselves. Very pleased with their work.

And another recommendation for David and the guys at Norwood Roofing. They did a fantastic job repairing ruined rendering on our roof, replacing broken slates, adding a new chimney cowl and generally giving our aged Victorian roof a new lease of life. They were approachable and considerate throughout - as well as being swift and reasonably priced. Definitely recommended.

Having used the forum looking for roofer recommendations, I'd like to add my recommendation for David of Norwood Roofing. He quoted quickly, arriving when he said we would. He gave me an exact date for the doing the work which was only a week after quoting, arrived when he said he would with his guys. They did the work quickly with no fuss and the work has a 10-year guarantee.

I've had a disappointingly installed flat roof, which leaked after only a year..

Dave and colleague were quick to come to look at it, diagnose the issue and assess what needed doing (which wasn't to completely re-do the roof!), and bustle back to fix it. This was all in a matter of days - and not months... They've previously re-done my guttering, too.

All was fairly priced and very well-executed. Most importantly for me, there's clearly real pride taken in their work.

I would recommend them highly.

    • Does anyone know when the next SNT meeting is? I am fed up with my son being mugged on East Dulwich Grove!
    • The issue must be everywhere at the moment. I was visiting a friend last week in Bermondsey, think we were walking  down Linton Rd & we dodged 7 dog poos. It was disgusting.
    • Thanks for your message — I actually took the time to look into what CityHive does before posting my original comment, and I’d encourage anyone with questions to do the same. Yes, the Companies House filings are overdue — but from what I’ve gathered, this seems likely to be an accountant or admin issue, not some sign of ill intent. A lot of small, community-based organisations face challenges keeping up with formalities, especially when they’re focused on immediate needs like food distribution. Let’s not forget CityHive is a not-for-profit, volunteer-powered CIC — not a corporate machine. As for the directors, people stepping down or being replaced is often about capacity or commitment — which is completely normal in the voluntary and community sector. New directors are sometimes appointed when others can no longer give the time. It doesn’t automatically mean bad governance — it just means people’s circumstances change. CityHive’s actual work speaks volumes. They buy most of the food they distribute — fresh produce, essential groceries, and shelf-stable items — and then deliver it to food banks, soup kitchens, and community projects across London. The food doesn’t stay with CityHive — it goes out to local food hubs, and from there, directly to people who need it most. And while yes, there may be a few paid staff handling logistics or admin, there’s a huge volunteer effort behind the scenes that often goes unseen. Regular people giving their time to drive vans, sort donations, load pallets, pack food parcels — that’s what keeps things running. And when people don’t volunteer? Those same tasks still need to be done — which means they have to be paid for. Otherwise, the whole thing grinds to a halt. As the need grows, organisations like CityHive will inevitably need more support — both in people and funding. But the bigger issue here isn’t one small CIC trying to make ends meet. The real issue is the society we live in — and a government that isn’t playing its part in eradicating poverty. If it were, organisations like CityHive, The Felix Project, City Harvest, FareShare, and the Trussell Trust wouldn’t need to exist, let alone be thriving. They thrive because the need is growing. That’s not a reflection on them — it’s a reflection on a broken system that allows people to go hungry in one of the richest cities in the world. If you're in doubt about what they’re doing, go check their Instagram: @cityhivemedia. You’ll see the real organisations and people receiving food, sharing thanks, and showing how far the impact reaches. Even Southwark Foodbank has received food from CityHive — that alone should speak volumes. So again — how does any of this harm you personally? Why spend time trying to discredit a group trying to support those who are falling through the cracks? We need more people lifting others up — not adding weight to those already carrying the load.
    • Well, this is very disappointing. Malabar Feast  has changed its menu again. The delicious fish curry with sea bass no longer exists. There is now a fish dish with raw mango, which doesn't appeal. I had dal and spinach instead, which was bland (which I suppose I could/should have predicted). One of my visitors had a "vegetable Biriani" which contained hardly any vegetables. Along with it came two extremely tiny pieces of poppadom in a large paper bag.   This was embarrassing, as I had been singing Malabar's praises and recommending we ordered from there. The other mains and the parathas were OK, but I doubt we will be ordering from there again. My granddaughters wisely opted for Yard Sale pizzas, which were fine. Has anybody else had a similar recent poor (or indeed good!)  experience at Malabar Feast?
