When I bought vinyl on mail order it was packaged in a "cardboard sleeve". This was the standard way of sending vinyl through the post system and it worked fine, so that's what I suggest you try.

If you are not happy with that then you can do as Amazon do and use the cardboard sleeve method and put that in a box and send it, but it will be more expensive and you'll be paying to send a lot of empty space through the post.

Preferred method is the first.

Cut four large squares out of a sturdy cardboard box (slightly larger than the record). Sandwich the LP with two cardboard squares either side and stick together with parcel tape. Write "fragile" / "do not bend" / etc in large letters. And hope for the best.

Being a regular receiver of records in the post, I can't state enough how much better a proper mailer with card stiffeners are compared to some make it yourself ones. Use 'Fragile' tape too, and write all over it that it's not to bent!

I have lots of record mailers that you are welcome to and am just off of bellenden road if that's near you?
