Rare 1983 Langans Brasserie menu (signed M. Caine)

This is an original signed Langans Brasserie menu from December 1983. Langan's Brasserie is a restaurant situated on Stratton Street, Mayfair, London. Opened by the Irish entrepreneur Peter Langan on 20 October 1976 in partnership with the actor Michael Caine, the Brasserie (which had previously housed the ornate restaurant Le Coq d'Or) quickly attracted celebrities and became hugely successful.

The menu was designed and drawn by David Hockney.

This not only is an original signature by Michal Caine, but also an historic document, especially for all you foodies out there. Sadly, Peter Langan died in 1988, and Michael Caine's share of the brasserie was bought by Richard Shepherd who still owns the Langans name. This menu hails back to a time now gone, and is historically richer for it.

The image has been 'stitched' together from two scans. However, the menu is in very good condition, having been kept in a frame since 1983 (It no longer is in that frame.) It is fully intact, and the scans were necessary as its actual size is A3 - I only have an A4 scanner!

Any knowing foodie will make me a sensible offer.

    • Cheques are still the safest way to send money to others if you want to make a 'thing' of it. At Christmas or birthdays a card with a cheque is the most effective present to distant god children or extended family, for instance when you don't know what they have or need - made out to the parent if you don't think they have an account yet. Of course you can use electronic transfer, often, to parents if you set it up, but that doesn't quite have the impact of a cheque in the post. So a cheque still has a use, I believe, even when you have very much reduced your cheque writing for other purposes.
    • I believe "Dulwich" is deemed where Dulwich library is situated so left at Peckham rye and straight up Barry Road
    • The solution for the cost of duvet washing is for each person to have their own single duvet like in Scandinavia.  Then you can wash the duvet in your own washing machine. Get a heated drying rack if you don’t have a tumble dryer.
