Polly D
What else can I put in R's sandwich, or on bread for tea, apart from:cottage cheesegrated cheddarmashed avocadophiladelphiaHe's 11 months and a good eater but I need new ideas for simple finger food (he usually has his 'main' meal for lunch), and ideally something that wouldn't go too soggy when I make it the night before for his lunchbag for the childminder. crystal7
Tuna mayo and sweetcorn go down well here. Also cream cheese and fruit spread, chicken pureed woth cottage cheese (bit of a faff but at the time I would have tried anything to get E to have some protein!), hummmus, hummus and avocado...As you can tell sandwiches are popular here! Bishberro
My son loves mackerel pate. I thought it would be too strong for him but he really likes it. I just whizz up a mackerel fillet with a spoonful of cottage cheese and creme freche so it's nice and creamy and a squeeze of lemon juice. It's good in a sarnie or with toasted pitta bread. Hummous with a bit of grated carrot is also a favourite. The Nappy Lady
Yep, my little one loves smoked mackerel (in any form) and also smoked salmon (cooked or as it comes.)!Molly Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9635-sandwich-fillers-ideas-please/#findComment-287688 Share on other sites
Belle
Tried soft spreadable goats cheese (just stuff from supermarket) this week on pitta and it seemed to go down well. oh also tuna mayo, left over roast chicken (though he prefers it if it's with mayo or similar) ...just discovered cucumber and that goes down really well, cucumber sandwiches?! or sticks of it for finger food? Sanne Panne
Cream cheese and sugar free peanut butter are big hits here (separately, not on the same sandwich). njc97
Hummus is a big favourite here. As is marmite (but sparingly given the salt). Ham is a bit salty so I've seen it recommended only from 12 months, but not sure what the magic is when they turn 1.... Cold roast chicken goes down well. Mini pizzas are good and easy - but some blinis from supermarket, add a bit of tomato paste and a little cheese and stick under the grill for a few minutes. snowboarder
baby snowboarder loves (well, sorry, tolerates) marmite - god is that another no-no? And pesto (I know not in a sandwich but generally is it too salty too?)? The Nappy Lady
I've always given them marmite, all things in moderation I say!Reckon we get far too obsessed with it all given what children in some countries are having to survive on IYKWIM.Molly Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9635-sandwich-fillers-ideas-please/#findComment-288277 Share on other sites
snowboarder
Good because currently is being sustained by marmite toast and pasta and pesto (is that what you meant by moderation?!?)
