DulwichFox
Wetherspoons has scrapped its traditional Sunday lunch roast dinner. The pub chain announced the decision to drop the staple meal and concentrate instead on burgers and other traditional classics. The last roast dinners will be served in its branches on Mother?s Day on March 6.There are 950 Wetherspoons restaurants in the UK, and many customers were sad to hear roast dinners will disappear.Burgers = profit..DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/96249-wetherspoons-has-scrapped-its-traditional-sunday-lunch-roast-dinner/ Share on other sites
Mick Mac
I like neither Weatherspoons nor roast dinners in pubs, so non issue for me and millions of others I'd suggest. Seabag
Burgers don't require knife and fork skillsOne less skill set for the clients to negotiateActually, the more evolved ones might use a fork, but that still equates a 50% reduction in cutleryage (I made that word up btw) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/96249-wetherspoons-has-scrapped-its-traditional-sunday-lunch-roast-dinner/#findComment-968026 Share on other sites
Louisa
Wetherspoons roast dinners are disgusting. However, they're cheap, and and to some people/families represent the only opportunity to eat out once in a while. I prefer homemade roasts, so won't be missing them one bit, but others who like this sort of cheap and cheerful option I can advise Morrisons cafe does a good value for money roast dinner. Louisa. DulwichFox
I have only been to a Weatherspoons once and had a burger (2014) which was ok as pub burgers go.. Do not generally eat roasts.. Most pub roasts are pretty dire.. The Victoria was ok but then I won a Free one when they first opened... but they went down the pan very quickly.. Roasts are NEVER as good as home made.. considering they are pretty simply. I have loads of vouchers for 50p of a pint for Weatherspoons from CAMRA. Never get round to using them.. Only 1 per visit. You used to be a funny poster, but in the last year or so you've come out with some really unpleasant stuff on a few occasions. ????
Come on Otta, Seabag's always had a bit of that and I like it, he's one of my favourites. Besides, Louisa's is just as unpleasant, much more frequently but you're a self-confessed fan so maybe a bit of inverse snobbery here? Otta
Anyway, Wetherspoons are good for cheap booze and something edible to fill your gut if you've had too much cheap booze. Not somewhere I'd go for a roast. Seabag has been a favourite of mine too, which is why I've been a bit taken aback. The fact I like some of Lou's work doesn't mean I'm always on her side or don't think she over does it. steveo
I used to take nutty mum to Penge Wetherspoons for 'lunch.' I used to tell her we were in Simpsons. We'd usually have Cottage pie and peas and a pint of Directors each and get change from a tenner (nearly), followed by a fag out the back for afters.Jolly nice it was too Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/96249-wetherspoons-has-scrapped-its-traditional-sunday-lunch-roast-dinner/#findComment-968207 Share on other sites

Jeremy
Yep - the beer is usually alright. The places themselves tend to be a bit soulless, but a couple of the pubs are OK. I'd only eat in one again if there was no choice. And what do you base this 'Louisa vs Seabag' scale of 'unpleasantness' on? How many more times on average am I frequently unpleasant? Bizarre comment. On the wider issue of snobbery, the funny thing about this so called 'inverse snobbery' is that, much like racism, sexism and various other forms of institutional discrimation within our society, those sat in their ivory towers from a position of privilege, are happy to scream from the rooftops about the inverted snobs attacking the hard done by gentrifiers and wealthy incomers to poor neighborhoods, when actually they fail to acknowledge that those very people are already in a position of privilege and advantage in the first place. It's like reverse anything really, when one has an advantage, it's not really correct to use the inverse label.'Those horrible working class bastards who want to be able to afford to buy a home where they grew up bad mouthing the great gentrifiers who just want to come and buy a 500k 'do me upper' and create a identikit neighborhood for themselves. Poor sods.' Yeah it's difficult to sympathise when those being bad mouthed are already in a position of class privilege. Louisa. I'm often a bit close to the mark, as I have always been, it's my way. But it's very very often tongue in cheek ,I'll leave you to decide which ones are or aren't That said, I'm happy to be direct and take responsibility for it. People can call me on it if I genuinely upset them, directly or indirectly But I have a lot of love in my heart, my default setting is joy. But I do have a very strong vein of mischief in my DNA Do tell where I overstepped the mark, I'll take it on board and apologise or explain if nessasary And ????'s your support means a lot, I thought you hated me - Ha ha!(Ps.
