I am running out of inspiration to find an Easter and/or Summer UK holiday place. Anyone got good ideas for a location where a car isn't needed but there's lot to do for a 5 year old, and it's not too much hassle having a 16 mth old along for the ride? And that's NOT sodding Centerparc or similar.

Could anyone recommend a nice coastal town or village, a Scottish Island or similar, a friend with a cottage to rent....

Many thanks for any ideas!

Robin Hood's Bay is lovely though you can't guarantee the weather ...pretty much car free, beach with donkeys and an ice cream van, fossils and sand castles...a little tricky to get there but once you're there its great. Train to York, change for Scarborough then bus to RHB..

We did St Ives car free and with a one year old and it was fab and you can get all the way by train (though its quite long)...

We went to Cornwall without a car and would say Lostwithiel and surrounding towns would be fine....especially if you'd be willing to take buses/taxis/walk to get about when you're there. Train from Padders goes direct to Lostwithiel.

Otherwise, I did a lovely holiday pre-kids without a car in Thurlestone in Devon. Just had to get a taxi from Exeter St Davids to the holiday home. Gorgeous beach and lovely pub in the village (or at least there was about 10 years ago!)./

Sidmouth is a really nice seaside town in Devon. Lots to do in the town itself, sandy beach but plenty of rockpools, old fashioned pleasure gardens, pitch & put, cinema, lovely park with a river running through it, indoor swimming pool for when the weather misbehaves. There is a bus station right in the middle of town, with connections to other towns along the coast. I am sure you would have a lovely time there.
We go to Tynemouth in the North-East every year since our son was very little and we don't have a car The metro runs all along the coast from Newcastle making it extremely easy to get from the mainline station to this lovely sea-side town - you can also get off at Cullercoats which is another lovely town. Tynemouth has a couple of beautiful sandy beachs - with Longsands also having a super beachside cafe. There is also a small Aquarium, a mini-golf course and a big bouncy castle park. There is a small Cooperative where you can get all your basic groceries (if you are going self-catering which I recommend). Hop on the Metro or you can also get a bus into Newcastle where you can go to lots of childfriendly places including the Centre of Life and the Baltic Art Gallery. You can also get a ferry over to South Shields where there is an amusement park.

    • maybe u should speak to some of the kids parents who are constantly mugged who can’t get a police officer to investigate and tell them to stick to gb news, such a childish righteousness comment for your self  All jokes aside there is young kids constantly getting mugged in our area, there is masked bike riders going around armed with knife’s, all I’m saying is police resources could be better used, police wont use there resources to respond to car theft but will happily knock on someone’s door for hurtful comments on the internet which should have us all thinking 🤔
    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
