HAL9000
I had considered whether it would serve as a feedback mechanism to help outliers converge towards what the majority felt was the accepted norm. However, once someone is ignored, there is no incentive to reverse that decision, which also means that the ignored person obtains no benefit by conforming.Publishing the figures would amount to an indirect way for the majority to tell an outlier to p1ss off and die ? effectively, it would be an index of cliquishness - or should that be clickishness?Has Admin sown the seeds of a colon-clickers' clique? :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-326990 Share on other sites
????
Of course, some would probably delight at being at the top of the list Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-327064 Share on other sites
ruffers
Suggestion -Given how many people don't include pictures in For Sale because they're too big, why not pin a How To Reduce Pictures post at the top of that section? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-327205 Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted May 27, 2010 Administrator Share Posted May 27, 2010 Good idea however I would rather not use the space at the top of the list with an instruction, it should be for announcements. What I can do is put a How To Reduce Picture Size link above the text box where people post, that will link to a message in the About the forum section explaining how it's done. I just need someone to write that post. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-327563 Share on other sites
ruffers
I was thinking along the lines of the http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?28,318328 advice sticky in Wanted. HAL9000
A (fairly simple) modification to the PHP code that uploads images could automatically resize oversize images. Many suitable code examples are available online. Here's one 'free software' example: Resizing images with PHPJust my two cents' worth. Administrator Administrator Posted May 29, 2010 Administrator Share Posted May 29, 2010 Ruffers, I see what you mean, when I cleaned the database of old posts recently I must have deleted the advice sticky thread in the For Sale section and not noticed. I'll put a new one up soon. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-328202 Share on other sites
legalbeagle
Hi Admin - there's a thread in the general section about a missing child, can you put a pin in it to keep it at the top of the page for a while? I keep bumping it up, but a pin is easier! Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-332262 Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted June 15, 2010 Administrator Share Posted June 15, 2010 Hi legalbeagle, we were asked if it was ok to put this on the website and of course it was, however as the boy disappeared from Doncaster 3 years ago and there was a rumoured sighting in SE London it's not really a 'pinnable' issue, we try and save the pinnable spot for major incidents in the area. Having said that I've made it sticky for today. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-332523 Share on other sites

Dorothy
Dear AdminWhy does the blurb under the section headed "General ED Issues/Gossip" suggest that this is the place to post about local businesses/restaurants etc?Someone posted about the new cafe on Barry Road today and the thread has been moved to ED Businesses and Trades (or whatever it is called, sorry I don't have the exact titles in front of me) which is fair enough. But - is the blurb under the General ED Issues/Gossip section now a bit misleading? SeanMacGabhann
Dorothy - not sure Admin is able to answer questions for a while but that was a good spot by you - those subheadings were there from the early days of the forum when it wasn't quite the unwieldy beast it is now (size wise) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-338298 Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted July 11, 2010 Administrator Share Posted July 11, 2010 As SeanMacGabhann said, well spotted Dorothy. When the forum was first set up that description was correct however as it's grown and additional sections added that description has never been updated and so is incorrect. We will update it shortly, if you have any suggestions what it should say please let me know. bloonoo
HiyaSorry if this has been mentioned before but I don't want to trawl through the site - when I post a for sale post, I can't then reply to the post if someone responds? it just goes onto the preview page and won't actually post. At first I thought it was my browser but I have tried in both Chrome and IE and it won't work. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/938-ask-admin/page/16/#findComment-345779 Share on other sites
mockney piers
Can you attempt to post the exact phrasing on this thread. Does the same thing happen? If so can you email admin [email protected] the text? There was a previous issue whereby anything with the text 'cialis' ie 'specialist' etc had the same behaviour that you describe. It was the automatic forum screening software prevented the text from being posted. Perhaps there is a similar thing going on. mockney piers
Bumping is not allowed I'm afraid.See "- The bumping up of messages to the top of the list with "bump" or similar vague messages is not allowed, messages/threads doing this maybe deleted without warning as it's not fair on other users. Administrator Administrator Posted July 29, 2010 Administrator Share Posted July 29, 2010 Hi KarrieIt doesn't really mean anything, it maybe that you've pressed the back butoon on your browser, or it's your browser's special way of showing the link.
