Either that or it'd go the other way and be something for some people to aim for. Same conclusion though.

I had considered whether it would serve as a feedback mechanism to help outliers converge towards what the majority felt was the accepted norm. However, once someone is ignored, there is no incentive to reverse that decision, which also means that the ignored person obtains no benefit by conforming.

Publishing the figures would amount to an indirect way for the majority to tell an outlier to p1ss off and die ? effectively, it would be an index of cliquishness - or should that be clickishness?

Has Admin sown the seeds of a colon-clickers' clique? :)

Good idea however I would rather not use the space at the top of the list with an instruction, it should be for announcements. What I can do is put a How To Reduce Picture Size link above the text box where people post, that will link to a message in the About the forum section explaining how it's done. I just need someone to write that post.

Hi legalbeagle, we were asked if it was ok to put this on the website and of course it was, however as the boy disappeared from Doncaster 3 years ago and there was a rumoured sighting in SE London it's not really a 'pinnable' issue, we try and save the pinnable spot for major incidents in the area. Having said that I've made it sticky for today.

Dear Admin

Why does the blurb under the section headed "General ED Issues/Gossip" suggest that this is the place to post about local businesses/restaurants etc?

Someone posted about the new cafe on Barry Road today and the thread has been moved to ED Businesses and Trades (or whatever it is called, sorry I don't have the exact titles in front of me) which is fair enough.

But - is the blurb under the General ED Issues/Gossip section now a bit misleading?

As SeanMacGabhann said, well spotted Dorothy. When the forum was first set up that description was correct however as it's grown and additional sections added that description has never been updated and so is incorrect. We will update it shortly, if you have any suggestions what it should say please let me know.

Hiya

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I don't want to trawl through the site - when I post a for sale post, I can't then reply to the post if someone responds? it just goes onto the preview page and won't actually post. At first I thought it was my browser but I have tried in both Chrome and IE and it won't work.

Thanks

Can you attempt to post the exact phrasing on this thread. Does the same thing happen?

If so can you email admin [email protected] the text?

There was a previous issue whereby anything with the text 'cialis' ie 'specialist' etc had the same behaviour that you describe. It was the automatic forum screening software prevented the text from being posted. Perhaps there is a similar thing going on.

    • Just last week I received cheques from NS&I. I wasn't given the option of bank transfer for the particular transaction. My nearest option for a parcel pick up point was the post office! The only cash point this week was the post office as the coop ATM was broken.   Many people of whatever age are totally tech savvy but still need face to face or inside banking and post office services for certain things, not least taking out cash without the worry of being mugged at the cash point.    It's all about big business saving money at the expense of the little people who, for whatever reason, still want or need face to face service.   At least when the next banking crisis hits there won't be anywhere to queue to try and demand your money back so that'll keep the pavements clear.
    • I think it was more amazement that anyone uses cheques on a large enough scale anymore for it to be an issue.    Are cheque books even issued to customers by banks anymore? That said government institutions seem to be one of the last bastions of this - the last cheque I think I received was a tax rebate in 2016 from HMRC.  It was very irritating.
    • I know you have had a couple of rather condescending replies, advising you to get to grips with technology and live in the modern world. I sympathise with you. I think some of us should try to be a bit more empathetic and acknowledge not everyone is a technophile. Try to see things from a perspective that is not just our own. Also, why give the banking sector carte blanche to remove any sort of human/public facing role. Is this really what we want?
