eater81
Look, to anybody upset with me, please read my post again. I'm not levying personal insults at the Sainsbury's staff, they probably all nice people, its just that working in a mind numbing job for fook all makes a person very apathetic, ultimately leading to them doing their job in a muppet-like manner. Things are not helped by the fact that they are treated like children by management. Did I not state that I too would be a useless muppet if I were paid 14k / year?Sue, please read my posts properly and at least attempt to understand the message I am trying to convey before insulting me. Hell, you've already embarrassed yourself by getting on your high horse through not understanding the concept of 'devils advocate'!As for the staff at Brixton Halfords however, low pay and apathy are no excuse for the behaviour exhibited by that bunch of numskulls. I'm not in the least embarrassed, and please don't patronise me.Your post was not worded in a way that implied you were playing devil's advocate, it was worded in a way that implied you yourself believed what you were saying. That may not have been what you meant to convey, but it was how the post came across, and it was not only me who picked that up.If you don't want people to misunderstand you and your posts, perhaps you should read them all through thoroughly before hitting the "post message" button.Edited to add: And I don't believe you have helped your case by continuing to slag people off in the way you are doing, for example the people at Halfords. And why should earning a relatively low salary be related to how people behave or how you describe them? eater81
Sue, you've done it again. I was not referring to your response to my post but to:"Posted by: Bellerophon January 04, 10:13PMPlaying Devils Whatsisname, I should imagine some of those staff attempting to destroy the crime scene knew exactly what they were doing""Posted by: Sue January 04, 10:31PMThat's rather a serious accusation without presumably any basis of evidence whatsoever?". Sue
OK I thought you were the person who had made the devil's advocate post, as you were going on about it, so what?My point still stands. Now don't you think it would be a good idea to debate the issue this thread is supposed to be about? jimmy two times
It's worth bearing in mind when you refer to staff in these shops as 'muppets' that many are actually students and are just working part time to earn some cash so they can study. They are not experienced in life, let alone the workplace. I hope next time you go down to Halfords they tell you to get on your bike. Sue
Don't encourage Eater81 to continue, ffs.I've got no wish to continue a discussion with anyone who describes other people as muppets and morons and then tries to defend it. eater81
Look, the fact is that that certain people ARE muppets and morons, otherwise the words would not exist in the English language. It is therfore the case that on occasion it is correct and fair to describe people using those words. It is my opinion that the staff in ED sainsbury's and Brixton Halfords exemplify those two words. The staff at Sainsbury's have proven my point with their imbecilic reaction to the situation that arose. Regarding Brixton Halfords, the last time I went in there I was so appalled that I vowed never to go in there again. legalbeagle
I don't wish to prolong this debate eater81 but it seems to me highly unlikely that you have met every member of staff at Sainsburys and Halfords. And if I'm right, then it's plain rude to lump them all together and insult them. I have met some staff at Sainsburys who have been kind, smiley and helpful. And by the way, Sainsburys in this context doesn't require an apostrophe. And don't even get me started on your spelling of "therefore". Normally I would apologise for my compulsive need to correct grammar but in this case I won't since you cited the English language as your main defence..... RosieH
sorry legalbeagle, but Sainsbury's does have an apostrophe - J Sainsbury or Sainsbury's, but not Sainsburys. Sorry again, but the inner pedant got the better of me.But you're right - nice staff in there (of course, I can't vouch for every single one of them...) legalbeagle
RosieH I have just googled said store and am utterly horrified to discover that you are correct. I hang my head in shame. Hoist by my own petard, as they say. I feel compelled to point out by way of mitigation that my error came from misunderstanding the name, rather than the use of the apostrophe. It's a weak defence but it's all I've got. I'm an utter moron (and/or muppet).[sob] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9362-fight-in-sainsburys-this-afternoon-january-03-lounged/page/4/#findComment-283083 Share on other sites
Domitianus
Only reason I knew you were wrong about Sainsbury's was I have always been delighted that they have actually correctly used punctuation when the populist temptation would have been to ditch a "superfluous" apostrophe, even though it was correct. Good for Sainsbury's I say. legalbeagle
Oh please don't make it worse. Don't tell me I've actually been using that shop on a regular basis and not even read their signs correctly. Is their no end to my public humiliation? Who else knew? I'm distraught. RosieH
Hahaha, poor legalbeagle - we've all been there. I used to rant and rave about greengrocers selling TOM'S, assuming the apostrophe incorrectly denoted a plural, until someone pointed out to me that it was to denote the missing letters. Oh the shame.Apologies for offtopication... Cassius
I like the staff in Sainsburys but have to agree with Eater re the staff in Halfords in Brixton - been there several times and never found anyone who actually knows anything about their stock or is willing to be helpful.
