Tanza
We've got friends coming for New Year's Eve whose kids have expressed an interest in seeing the central London fireworks. Rather than heading into the crush in central London can anyone recommend any local vantage points? I wondered if somewhere near the Horniman might have a good view? Or if there are any local displays happening - Burbage road perhaps?? Carrie
You could try the Fox on the Hill - we got a good view from the grassy area in front of the pub on millenium night Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9307-where-is-the-best-local-place-to-view-new-years-eve-fireworks/#findComment-280023 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
The Penitentiary. That's what we call it anyway. But in actual fact it is called Dalston Heights on OverhillRoad and the views from there at any time of year are fabulous. On New Year's there's quite a good atmosphere and you can see everyone's fireworks going off all over. Unless it is foggy. Oh, and bring alcohol... James Barber
I agree with PeckhamRoase.Dawson's Heights open grass area, at the very top, is definately worth a traipse at any time of the year. It's a bit unloved at the moment but even now is one of London's great secret viewing areas.Would'nt it be great if for London Open House weekend in September views from the top floor of Dawson's Heights could be arranged.... PeckhamRose
What more would you see? I'm lucky enough to have flown in a small plane around London - now THAT's 'views'!I don't think the views would be much more than you see already though. And who'd want to open their flats up to people who just want to look out their windows? Well, I would, for a fiver a time. But I don't live at Dalston Heights. In you come! Orderly queue now please! Medley
One Tree Hill also on a good angle for the main fireworks. But where to go around Greenwich, given the Park seems to close...? YellowC
The peak of Canonbie Road is a fabulous spot. You have a 360 view, including London Eye, that stretches up to North London and down to Kent. PeckhamRose
Oh I agree, I knew someone lived at Canonbie and that's the best - having said that, I shall be at Dawson Heights.I'll be wearing a black coat, have two people with me and we'll be drinking home made mulled wine I made this evening... out of flasks. brum
I was there too PR... Fabulous views as you rightly said, fantastic fireworks across the whole horizon with the main event at The Eye smack in the centre. And to think, it's only yards from my front door. chicknic
Yes thanks, we had a great time and wouldn't have known about the place if not for this thread. Happy New Year! PeckhamRose
Why did no-one come and say hello?I was only a little drunk and I was shouting HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ANY EAST DULWICH FORUM FOLK!! and I was indeed with two people drinking from a flask (mulled wine, with vodka) and no-one came to say hello. What a fab view, and just after the fireworks finished we had a flurry of snow and then walked home. And it's half one and I only just woke up.Back to bed mind....
