That would not of been my approach..

The Cherry Tree post on here and read the comments posted by other users..

People discusing any alleged noise problem here on the forum would bring the issue their attention

and they would be able to put there case forward..

I haven't been to the new Cherry Tree yet.. It really is a bit outside my social geographical remit..

East Dulwich ends at the roundabout / Goose Green for me.. I am not looking for any new venue for social enlightenment.

If you have a problem with somebody speak them. Communication is all. Bleating on a local forum isn't going to achieve anything.

Well thats fine if you have the confidence to do so on your own. There are those who are able to throw their weight about.

Some less confrontational people may feel they need a little bit of support.. That's the problem. If something don't bother someone, sod any poor beggar that it does bother.

Maybe you are one of the clientel having a good time making the noise without a thought for local residents..

It's not about "throwing your weight around". There's a polite and reasonable middle ground between that and being a shrinking violet.

No business has the right to adversely affect the neighbours quality of life, but conversely that do have the right to expect they if they've overstepped the line then those neighbours will come to them first, not simply moan about it online.

Frankly you have to be willing to go in and talk to them. Communication is everything.

I think people have very short memories..

A few years back The Great Exhibition wanted to keep their Beer Garden open late into the night..

There were complaints by local residents..

No one to one conversation with the management made the slightest bit of difference.

There was much discussion on here and eventually a meeting was arranged (with Councillor Barber and the other

councillor whose name I cannot recall.) in Darrell Road.

The outcome was that instead of the garden being allowed to open later, the garden was forced to close earlier.

This meeting would never of come about without forum dicussion..

I rest my case..

But did people address their concerns firstly to The Great Exhibition?

Then Fox's point is not proved at all. The residents did the right thing in talking to the pub first; when that didn't work they used other methods at their disposal.

As I said before, I've got no problem with residents 'escalating' things if a venue won't listen to them; so long as you've given that place the chance to resolve it face to face, as it were, then you're totally justified in using social media, councillors and any other (legal) means at their disposal. But that first meeting is important.

sorry to disagree, JoeLeg, it does actually support the Fox's point - the issue was raised on the Forum, which was why the affected residents could see that they had common cause and were able to take action; the meeting that was convened by James Barber was advertised on the Forum as well

just because one is lucky enough not to live next to a noisy pub is no reason to object when people who do, object - and I notice a lot of hypothetical 'I would never object, me' type arguments; some of the posters on this thread seem actually unhappy that ED is slowly becoming a less raucous place in the bits off Lordship Lane

What did you do?

Well if that's what had to happen with the Great Exhibition then clearly all of East Dulwich should use this example as a guide. First complain about it on this forum in the hope the pub in question might see (maybe send smoke signals and telepathic messages just to be sure), create some negative discussion about a pub which has otherwise been fostering good public relations (especially in comparison to previous owners).....then if, and only if all of these avenues have been covered, then you might have to go do something REALLY maverick like communicate with them in person.

Go speak to them, see if anything can be achieved in a polite and grown up fashion, if not, come back on here and many people will be all too happy to help.

FFS!!!

Email this:

"Hi there, I am a local neighbour and was kept disturbed last sat until about 2 am with music coming from your pub. This is not something which I have particularly noticed before, so was wondering if you could possibly reassure me that it may have been a one off or otherwise?

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards"

The original posting -- nothing here to say that the poster HADN'T already spoken directly with the pub manager. Maybe she had...
