giggirl
On a tangent - I'm spending Christmas in a smoking house in Sydenham but I don't care if I do smell of smoke because I've had my internet order cancelled for lack of stock so no georgeous stunning red crepe dress for me. Nothing to wear. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9221-neighbours-that-smoke/page/3/#findComment-278909 Share on other sites

SeanMacGabhann
Giggirl has already answered for meI know some countries have already gone down a smoking in your own home can be prohibited route, but I wouldn't like to see it here Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/9221-neighbours-that-smoke/page/3/#findComment-278923 Share on other sites
Alg
Maybe I should just rent the flat out to drug addicts who like to play loud musical instruments. My point is that there needs to be a point of comprimise. You came on here asking for advice and you've received some really good advice. The bottom line is that your neighbours do not need to compromise and any "give" on their part will be voluntary and entirely dependent upon your diplomatic skills.Frankly that last comment you made was appalling and if you go to your neighbours with that sort of attitude they will no doubt shut the door in your face and I wouldn?t blame them. Alg
That is my point, the neighbours don't need to compromise, but in that case neither should I if it didn't suit me. hence my comment.I agree that most the advice has been useful, except for a few comments made by certain individuals, again the reason why I made my point.Either way, thanks to you all for the useful advise provided. I have managed to get a few quotes from joiners and carpenters who will start the work at the begining of the new year. Peckhamgatecrasher
Pinocchio, have you ever considered that by having wooden floors you are almost certainly pissing off your downstairs neighbours bigtime? Also have you checked the terms of your lease - most contain a clause that require carpet, at the least, as soundproofing measures. However if need be we can add that to the lease with a no smoking clause then we can all be happy. For compromise to be successful you need to understand the other person's perspective and I don't think your grasping it. They are not smoking to annoy you or disrespect you; they are smoking because they are smokers. giggirl
Daizie - how long since you quit?I quit 8 years ago and it takes a long long long time to stop wanting to smoke. Even now - rarely - mainly when I've had some booze - I'll still want one.I smoked for over 20 years and I will say that life is better without the fags. It's hard to stop though. I had a friend to give up with and it made all the difference to have someone to call and rant at. Maybe some of you ED smokers should get together and give up? And, if I stub it out on the pavement I could be liable for an ?80 fine. Where's an ashtray when you need one? Fortunately, I do when I remember to carry a stubbie to put them out in.
