Park your Southwark Council vehicle on a corner to give someone a ticket = face disciplinary action for making the roads more not less dangerous

Park your Southwark Council vehicle blocking a disabled ramp = face disciplinary action for making the roads more not less dangerous

Park your Southwark Council scooter in a loading bay = face disciplinary action for making a mockery of the point of the loading bay

I totally agree with you, but as I am in My shop on Melbourne Grove, I do watch them sometimes, and they break all the traffic laws there are. They are often parked on the curb, which by the way is an immediate ?80 fine, they are forever stopping on the yellow lines,double parking and parking in dropped curbs, as well as taking up space in the free bays for a quick nap, which stops other people being able to park!

Surely they must practice what they preach.

I watched a programme about them a few weeks ago where they had hidden cameras on their hats. The abuse they received was an absolute disgrace. I could not be a traffic warden cos if anyone ever talked to me like that I'd deck them.

Someone earlier made the point that parking regulations in parts of London are very complicated, giving this example www.barnetresidentsassociation.org.uk. To be fair though, I know it's got a lot of numbers in it, but it's perfectly clear. It says you can park Mon to Sat between 9.30am and 4.30pm if you buy a ticket (max 1 hour). Parking is free through the night 6.30pm to 8.00am, and all day Sunday. Another slightly different rule applies to loading. And there's an arrow pointing you to the nearest ticket machine.

Southwark Council are making a lot of money from this outrageous scam. Originally these wardens were employed to HELP the community but are now just tax collectors. I don't condone any abuse but that is a separate issue to the cynical use of commercial wardens who's remit is to maximise the councils revenue by hindering it's citizens. It is really quite disgusting. Perhaps we should remind our selves that the council is there to serve US and not just "dip their beaks" where ever they see opportunity.

My two pennyworth of advice - make sure that your car is registered to your home address.

Easy to forget if you've moved.

If you fall foul of a traffic camera - enter congestion zone without realising ,cross that no entry sign at top of Rye Lane - you probably won't even realise that you've incurred a fine .

You won't get the reminders which will go to your old address and before you know it one of those automatic readers that logs your license plate will trigger a whole load of grief in outstanding fines,baliffs costs ,car removal.

There is no need to even enter into any form of dialogue with the parking wardens let alone abuse them. Simply appeal against every ticket that you get. A high percentage of these fines and tickets are overturned on appeal. Also if you appeal you don't have to pay until a decision has been made on the appeal.

Try not to lose the ticket. It's not a valid excuse if you find your fines doubled because you failed to pay or appeal.

JTT is right. Appeal every ticket - there are loads of loopholes too: yellow lines should be unbroken; double-yellows should be have a 't-bar' end; signs should be clear and posted a set distance apart and make sure the offence, date and all vehicle and location details are correct, to the letter.

BTW, if you get a ticket from a private car park, such as a supermarket or private land, ignore it - it's completely unenforceable.

True. But do research so that you know how to write the correct wording. There are template letters to be found on various consumer websites.

Garnwba - I don't think anyone is moaning about the amount you have to pay if you park 'illegally'. You maybe need to read the thread properly. People are complaining about the broken process that says that if you forget to pay a ?60 parking fine, you get asked for ?680 by some thug in a bomber jacket, without even getting a reminder letter or a 'please pay now or we will pass this on to debt collectors' letters.

They are also moaning about parking wardens who park dangerously, contravening the parking regulations they are meant to be policing, and who do not realise that sometimes their behaviour is less than anyone would expect from a council employee.

A happy day when I got back to the motorcycle and found a parking ticket stuck to the windscreen in an ENVELOPE saying it was a warning only.

I had parked on a boxing day.

A bit like Sat 26th Dec, Westminster Libraries are treating it as a Bank Holiday but Westminster Parking B@stads are NOT.

I ignored the thing and they sent me a reminder. I sent a photo of the official Westminster Parking control envelope.

They said the case is dismissed.

You're lucky they didn't pursue the fine - they have a ?17m bad-Icelandic-investment-sized hole in their finances to fill, don't they?

I wrote and said I would be quite delighted at the opportunity to stand up in court holding the envelope which clearly stated that it was a warning only! I'll hunt for the photo of the envelope. I should rent it out!

I remembered this thread and took this photo of an illegally parked parking enforcement officer on Thursday night.

He was parked on the pavement opposite EDT just off lordship lane

I know that they can park on yellow/red lines etc in the name of 'duty' but are they allowed to park ON the pavement?

Is that even safe???

R and A I toook a photo recently of these disgraceful pests parked on a double yellow line with one wheel on the pavement. I shall shortly be passing this on to Southwark for their comment.

And Garnwba - as has been pointed out - no one seems to be questionin the amount being charged for "illegal" parking. The beef is about the wardens making nuisances of themselves yet parking willy nilly - and getting away with it. Try to keep up

I received a PCN for 4 minutes whilst my plumbers van was parked in the loading bay opp Bells Plumbers just off Lordship Lane while I was loading a new hot water cylinder... even though the bay is for loading and you are entitled to 40mins.. explain that one to me someone..

You can definitely appeal that one JohnH. All you need is the invoice or receipt to prove you were loading. Send that with your appeal letter and you should be fine. What is a loading bay for if not for loading..

The Civil Enforcement Officers are nasty pieces of work. I saw the guy who ticketed me for the same thing this afternoon. I thought about walking over and pushing his scooter over (but then the civilised voice in my head told me not to :-)
