Peckham Vision

Early notice of a public community meeting for EVERYONE who lives or works or trades in Peckham:

WEDNESDAY 27th JANUARY 2016

3pm drop-in to discuss Peckham planning issues

7pm - 9pm public community meeting

@ CLF Art Cafe, Bussey Building, 133 Rye Lane

* What is your vision for Peckham?

* What do you want Peckham to become?

* What do you think of what is happening now?

This is an important opportunity for local people to say what they think to influence what is happening to Peckham. The New Southwark Plan policy team from the Council will be present to hear about your personal visions for Peckham.

Please put this date in your diary and pass the information through all your local networks. Make your own Facebook event page using the info from this post. If you have any contacts with young people, of any background or heritage, who have views about Peckham encourage them to come. This is a great opportunity for them to say what they feel about what is happening to Peckham. If you are part of networks of local people of any background who have views about Peckham but who don't normally come to planning meetings, tell them about this as well, and encourage them to come!

PURPOSE OF THE MEETING

The Council is consulting the public on their New Southwark Plan (NSP) which is the key planning policy document used in planning decisions for the next 15 to 20 years. Part of the document will be a vision statement for some neighbourhoods. Peckham is one of these. At this stage they want to hear from local people about what they want in the vision statement for their neighbourhood.

We are arranging the community event on 27th January to give a wide variety of local people a chance to say what they want for Peckham. If you or anyone you know have views about some of the burning issues about Peckham's future, this is the meeting to come to, to give your views, and influence what happens.

ABOUT THE NEW SOUTHWARK PLAN

Other parts of the New Southwark Plan document, about planning policies, are also out for consultation, and comments have to be made by 12th February. The draft document for the consultation is here: http://goo.gl/2hifdf. The plan covers a large number of policies.

You do not have to read the New Southwark Plan or give comments on it to come to the meeting on 27 January!

But if you do want to read it, we have produced a guidance note for some further information on this, how to find your way around the document, and some information on policy issues of current concern in Peckham. You can see that here: http://goo.gl/9sszYb

You can get further guidance on these matters, get some of your queries answered, and discuss your ideas about how this Plan affects Peckham, at Peckham Vision's shop in Holdron's Arcade, 135a Rye Lane and open 2-4pm on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons, as well as from 3pm at CLF in the Bussey, 133 Rye Lane before the community meeting on 27th January.

You can also email [email protected] with your queries and your suggestions

    • Maybe I'm behind the times, but in the old days if you went to a pub for charity fundraiser you'd have a quiz or karaoke and you'd be chipping in for a new scanner at your local hospital or maybe sending some poor kiddie for some cancer treatment abroad. Nowadays you can roll down to the Old Nun's head in Nunhead and tip your money into a bucket for some sad young woman to go a private surgeon and have her breasts sliced off -  as if that was going to be some kind of life-saving treatment!  Not only that, she's publicising her Valentine's crowdfunder with a funny ha ha (not) cartoon of a girl (see pic) with a hypodermic in her bum and calling it 'Valen-Tits-off'. Jesus wept. Whatever happened to hearts and flowers? It's so unbelievably sick. I'm a woman, I've pretty much still got all the woman-bits intact. Periods and puberty weren't much fun, I was bullied at school, wondered about my sexuality and boys and spots and the rest of it, got called a lezzer by the class cow, but I got through it. And I would no more think that cutting bits off a girl was the solution to her misery than I would put my teenage daughter on a diet if she was diagnosed with anorexia. I can't be the only person who finds the pub - and its publicity material - very VERY offensive?
    • I know you asked for recommendations, but I have lots of families who would happily give a glowing reference for my tutoring.  Will DM you.
    • There's Gather  in Bellenden Road. And doesn't the Turkish (?) shop sell no packaging things? I'm sure it used to at one point. Maybe it stopped.
    • If nobody on here knows, I will ask at a DIY shop. I already googled, but most of the solutions aren't feasible for me, I don't think.
