I am trying to recycle a large amount of old VHS tapes but the charity shops won't take them because they can't sell them and not all the recycling places will take them either.

If anyone has got any advice of where to take them or if anyone collects old VHS TV box sets I would be grateful if you could let me know

I do know someone locally who shifted a lot of VHS tapes on either e-bay or gumtree (sorry, can't remember which) - but he did have to list (by title or category - bit of a bore) the tapes he had. If you just want to avoid waste (throwing stuff away which might be re-used) then setting a very low per tape price and requiring collection should help here.

If you've got a VHS of Zefirelli's over the top movie of La Traviata (early eighties), I'll buy it off you.

Long shot I know.

I binned mine because I couldn't watch the tragic ending, and now - being made of sterner stuff - find it's not available on DVD for less than around fifty quid :(

It is hard to avoid. Even if you can get rid of tapes you bought there are still the originally blank ones to consider. No one is going to want those.

    • I’d like to recommend local plumber - James at Trelco Plumbing. I’ve used them twice now, for a kitchen tap replacement and a boiler repair. Both times they were able to attend at short notice, arrived on time and we are very happy with the work they have done. James is polite, responsive and easy to deal with. • Deptford Green and Elm Green anecdotally have a more realistic and compassionate to kids differing needs. Whether that is still the case i'm not sure. Having 3 boys at Charter i would seriously consider a boys school if you have them, Charter East really aren't geared up for the different educational needs of some boys and the challenging behaviour this frustration leads to. I have heard amazing things about St Thomas the Apostle boys school.
    • Thanks everyone for the great recommendations! I wouldn't normally go for vegan restaurants, but I've been to En Root and really liked it. Fresh and tasty.  The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton also sell their food, to eat in their cafe before or after a film (I don't think they sell the whole menu that you'd find in Peckham, but there is a good choice)
