marcushessenberg
Hi all!I am currently working on a film for the past year, about Peckham and the many sides to the area. The film touches on Little Lagos, the new art scene and the food scene as well as the history and views on recent changes. I am currently looking for people who would be up for talking about what they like about the new restaurants and bars etc - maybe you have seen all the changes and see it as a positive - maybe you have thought about buying or relocating from ED to Peckham? Do you find your self going to Peckham more than ED now? Also Maybe you are new to the area and new to Peckham - what do you like about the area?I am looking for open opinions and hoping to end up with a finished piece full of a wide range of views. It is a long term project, documenting communities in the boundary. Please do get in touch!Marcus[email protected] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89815-making-a-documentary-of-peckham-any-contributors/ Share on other sites

PohSuan
Hi Marcus,Sounds like an interesting project.I have sent this link to our local residents association ARARA in Peckham to see if anyone is interested in taking part. We've been featured in the Peckham Peculiar a few times. There's quite a mix of new and old residents here so am sure they'll be a wide range of opinions on Peckham.Look forward to hearing more about your project.ThanksMel Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89815-making-a-documentary-of-peckham-any-contributors/#findComment-948112 Share on other sites
Louisa
Marcus,How about a reference to Peckham's 'barrow boy' era which was mostly cockney and working class throughout most of the 20th century. I would advise popping to Manzes Pie and Eel house in Peckham where you will find numerous contributors. The whole Del Boy thing wasn't a million miles from the truth back in the 60's and 70's. DulwichFox
None of Only Fools and Horses was filmed in Peckham. It was mostly filmed in Bristol. http://findthatlocation.com/Television-Show/Only-Fools-and-Horses The only Market in Peckham proper was on Choumert Road..Del Boy's flat in Only Fools And Horses was in fact Harlech Tower in Acton, West London. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/08/23/article-2029098-003D1AA500000258-199_306x423.jpg Not the blocks of flats on Commercial Way / Old Kent road as some people seem to think. Those do not have balconies.. geneie
i remember it well, though as far as I can recall, it didn't spread to Dulwich, it was mostly 'my end' of Peckham, the High Street, Hill Street and North Peckham estates.http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/october/1/newsid_2486000/2486315.stm Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89815-making-a-documentary-of-peckham-any-contributors/#findComment-948366 Share on other sites

marcushessenberg
Hi Dulwich Fox,Would you be interested in recounting these punch ups? I have a little on the 80s, but less on the 60s - maybe we could walk and talk about these if you did not mind? Maybe you could tell me your feelings about Peckham then and now.ThanksMarcus Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89815-making-a-documentary-of-peckham-any-contributors/#findComment-950429 Share on other sites
bob
DF. Yes the only ruck's from the 60's I can remember was from the fair's with any one including the Dum, Dum's. 50's Teddy Boy's from Peckham, Elephant and Bermondsey had a go now and then but every one left the Rockingham Est well alone but before my time Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89815-making-a-documentary-of-peckham-any-contributors/#findComment-950607 Share on other sites

richard tudor
Still got the hair. You have to agree that those were good times. Cannot believe that the Temple Bar is now a ? shop.Magic times. Fear these times are lost on current residents. They think now is trendy and hip. Dream onStill times move on, good job I bought my 5 bed house in 1974. William Penn must have taught me something. richard tudor
No way my man.Local and stayed here. I have no reason to gloat and be bitter.I stayed when Southwark was pissing on the hood. Can you remember when the west way high way was proposed and the Channel tunnel dig was proposed. I doubt itNo mortgage lender would entertain you.Property went down the tank. If you had bought a property you were looking at having a property that was unsalable.Bitter about what? I love the area. Local born and bred.
