fruityloops
If you are not a cyclist would you want one of these parked right outside your front door. Will they be sited away from residential front doors? I would not like one right outside my house.----In answer to your question (1) yes I'm a cyclist (2) no I certainly wouldn't want to look out of my window onto that.----Except the having it in front of your house doesn't guarantee you access to it. Personally, I wouldn't want one directly in front of my house. I'm glad there are people who do though as hopefully the council will take individual preference into consideration when selecting the precise location. ---- Just a handful of the examples of NIMBYism on this thread. LondonMix
I never asked those questions by the way, that was someone else. I don't think the hangers should be located in front of front doors but at junctions away from front doors. If other people want them in front of their front doors then great for them. I'm glad siting them is done via consultation so that people can get what they want / makes sense for them.If that is NIMBYism to you so be it, you clearly are just spoiling for a fight Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89663-street-cycle-store-at-the-end-of-thorncombe-road/page/4/#findComment-948600 Share on other sites
DaveR
"Yes, DF, that is why I asked DaveR if he thought those/any family who requested a hangar on their street should also give up their car, if they have one. He did not answer."Just to be clear, I didn't answer because it's a very stupid question. Lambeth now has over 150 of these installed. Southwark is aiming for another 89 to add to 11. With the right scale this could become a strategic transport project and that is the angle I've taken with council officials. With regard to attractiveness. Lambeth in some cases have bookened them with street streets in the road. Seems a great way of doing it.--------------------Regards [email protected]07900 227366 Liberal Democrat Councillor for East Dulwich Ward Skype cllrjamesbarber [www.jamesbarber.org.uk] [twitter.c Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89663-street-cycle-store-at-the-end-of-thorncombe-road/page/4/#findComment-948624 Share on other sites
LondonMix
I was basing my statement on Sue's comment who has actually been through the process for the one being installed near her street following her request. LondonMix
And all of the ones I've seen in ED so far are at junctions away from front doors / windows so that is clearly possible Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/89663-street-cycle-store-at-the-end-of-thorncombe-road/page/4/#findComment-948628 Share on other sites

rupert jones
There are only so many junctions with space to use safely, most of ED have houses on the end of roads. wulfhound
Here's one of those hangars looking a lot less fugly..http://winerides.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Bikehangar-Planters-Wood.jpg@ keano77 they're basically just bolted down - and if nobody's using it, I'd imagine the council will move it to somewhere that it will get used. So that they can charge people to use it. No point in having them on the street if they're not used. rupert jones
And you expect Southwark to go round planting and tending. They cannot even keep the streets tidy. LondonMix
Most streets do not have a front door at the junction. Most streets have two junctions. Its entirely possible to do this for virtually every road that requests it without running out of space. rupert jones Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> There are only so many junctions with space to use> safely, most of ED have houses on the end of> roads. rupert jones
As Southwark now look to have yellow lines on junctions for safety, surely putting one of these will hinder sight lines Which will render this yellow line policy pointless. So they will have to be outside someone's house. LondonMix
They can be placed at the same junctions they are being placed at now. Most streets are organised in the same way as the streets that already have them. Abe_froeman
You'd either have to demolish the buildouts or put them in front of someone's house in many streets. As you say, the buildouts purport to improve visibility at junctions. LondonMix
For Sylvester road, they could go in the junction with Cyrena which is where the one for Heber road is located. I'd have to look at the other roads as I don't live as near them to answer quickly. LondonMix
Exactly, that was my point. I don't think this is a big deal. They have been and can be located in this way. If some people specifically prefer to have them directly in front of their house as they think that's better, then hopefully that could also be arranged at the time of request. I like the planters in the picture some else attached. It definitely softens the look of them. The hangars come what may are a great new addition. rahrahrah Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> richard tudor Wrote:> --------------------------------------------------> -----> > I think what Rupert was saying the above are> only> > example names he had come to mind and not all> the> > roads in East Dulwich.> > Almost every street has similar spots, which> aren't directly overlooked, that's the point. take> almost any street and a quick Streetview will> uncover a bits which aren't located directly> outside someone's front door.
