22fdunst
We were broken into last night whilst our family slept. We have been kindly contacted by a couple of people who have found a few of our possessions in various places on Upland Road. If anybody else spots anything (coats, handbags etc), we'd be really grateful if you could call us (07977 449003).Many thanksAlex Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/85792-burglary-on-upland-road-dec-4th-2015/ Share on other sites
Sorehead
sorry to hear that and I'll keep an eye out for any of your possessions. Its one if my nightmares and dread the day this happens to us. We're on Upland Road too. Could I ask, did they force the door? Break a window? Was the door double locked.Would be interested to know if there's any measures you think you could have taken that might have prevented it.Hope you day gets better and sorry you had to go through this. nina_maniana
Hi we live on upland road too and were burgled in September, also whilst we were asleep upstairs. The lock was 'popped' on the front door which wasn't double locked, all very quiet, in and out pretty quickly it seems. We now double lock the door at night so if anyone wanted to get in they'd have to make such a racket we'd wake up.Anyways seems there are loads of burglaries on upland road, probably the same gang given the police drop all the burglary cases in 24 hours as it's too hard to investigate. Our car which they took showed up last week so maybe there will be some clues to your burglary too. MCMC
This is awful. We were broken into at 11am on Saturday. We think the burglar thought we were out so he got the shock of his life. Now we have deadlocks that you can twist on internally very easily. Police told us it's completely out of control in SE22 anyone without a burglar alarm box is at most risk. mynamehere
MCMC what is completely out of control in SE22? Burglaries? The police told you this? Are the burglaries because of what? Inadequate locks? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/85792-burglary-on-upland-road-dec-4th-2015/#findComment-941873 Share on other sites
phobic3000
It's true you are less likely to be targeted if you have an alarm but it's not "completely out of control" there's just been an increase in activity recently.Edit to say sorry to hear you were one of the unlucky ones. MCMC
Answering two questions:Police told me burglaries are at record levels in SE22 and well orchestrated. We only used a basic Yale lock. The Police demonstrated how these can be opened with a cut up shampoo bottle (terrifyingly easy). Now we use dead bolts which can only be opened with the keys.I think 54 burglaries in one month is anyone's definition of "completely out of control".http://www.crime-statistics.co.uk/postcode/Se22%209pf Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/85792-burglary-on-upland-road-dec-4th-2015/#findComment-942124 Share on other sites
Grok
Yes, it is out of control here and Barber denying it is completely unhelpful and detrimental.MCMC Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Answering two questions:> > Police told me burglaries are at record levels in> SE22 and well orchestrated. > > We only used a basic Yale lock. alice
http://maps.met.police.uk/?areacode=E09000028 although monthly trends show an increase, the annual trend is decreasing. so I couldn't say out of control. Blah Blah
There does seem to have been a spike lately though and going on about stable yearly averages, whether slightly up, down or otherwise is of little comfort to those who have been burgled. There's probably a small group of people responsible for most of the recent burglaries, and they need to be caught asap. Sue
MCMC Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> We only used a basic Yale lock. I'm very sorry you were burgled, but doesn't your insurance company require a five-lever mortice lock (ie locked with a key) on all outside doors?I was concerned I wasn't sufficiently protected, and spoke to the locksmiths up the road (when they were based on Lordship Lane) and they told me that the mortice lock was fine and I didn't need anything fancier. Which I thought was extremely honest of them.ETA: Obviously that doesn't stop burglars getting in some other way. Though in my case they'd find nothing much to take unless they want a nine year old laptop :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/85792-burglary-on-upland-road-dec-4th-2015/#findComment-942228 Share on other sites

Rosetta
I have two mortice locks, plus one Yale on my front door. Every place I have ever lived has required for insurance purposes a five lever mortise on final exit doors. Yale only will invalidate your insurance. On back door, I have a mortice lock, two key operated locks at top,and bottom, plus a metal door over the other door. Sue
rabbitears Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> He said he was in the house at the time.Fair enough, but he (she?) also said "We only used a basic Yale lock." Maybe I misunderstood, as s/he also said that following a burglary they now have deadlocks.I keep both my doors locked on the mortice locks when I'm in the house, though I accept that probably the insurance company doesn't require that.BTW was there a burglary in Ulverscroft Road earlier today? There were a lot of police about around eleven this morning :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/85792-burglary-on-upland-road-dec-4th-2015/#findComment-942299 Share on other sites

We were not insured for the losses. Thank God we were in to scare him off.Now we have 4 front door locks, CCTV (I just filmed my motorbike being nicked in all it's glory) and a Yale alarm.
