karter
EccentricCant really be specific as its in legals and not confirmed and It wouldnt be fair of me to say, at this point. The place already has a3 use. Go do some research on that and maybe you will find out the exact location. However cant divulge the proposed tenant. Sorry to be a supertease. sprocket
what a load of moaning minnies! Northcross Road wouldn't be what it is today without the pioneering spirit of the BM.I say three cheers to Mel(and cut him a little slack all ye who are quick to criticise)for getting the whole thing started in the first place... SeanMacGabhann
There is much sense in what you say and it is a bit painful to criticise an old friend. But the Blue Mountain being the quirky loner is no longer trueTo paraphrase Damon Albarn complaining about Noel Gallagher "You can only live on a legend for so long. yes it was good but it's like a guy in his 60s saying he got 9 A levels when he was 15"That's being a bit harsh on Mel & Co actually, I do still like to go but there is enough feedback for some of the complaints to be true and worth addressing? Apple
I'm torn...it is a lovely little place and embodies the ED spirit (I've met complete strangers who have made comments such as "oh wow, I'd love to have a coffee in BM" when they have heard I live in ED, as though this is 'living the dream'). However, I have waited literally half an hour for a smoothie before, then an innocent smoothie style carton has been brought over for ?2.50! Also it was very embarrassing taking my mother there and paying so much for one slice of toasted bread - eek! I think it has been wildly popular with deserved popularity and is now so popular it is receiving a back-lash of criticism. It's like everything! The prices are in keeping with the demand and the local economy. They don't need to cut prices to shift food and it's not charity afterall! The sweet shop and BM cafe make a good combo for the yummy mummies! elizlondon
I've been to the BM a couple of times now and I've really enjoyed it. The food's been tasty and the staff's been pleasant and I haven't been kept waiting long.Good to hear a positive report on Jack's. I spotted it the other day and am looking forward to trying it out.Elizabeth Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/854-blue-mountain/page/2/#findComment-22775 Share on other sites
clare
Jacks is lovely and the food very good. If you don't want to eat round lots of babies though try and avoid peak times. bald marauder
Went to Jacks at the weekend, very, very dissapointed.Extraordinarily average food, which while not too expensive, did not feel like very good vfm either.Would rather pay a bit more and go to Petitou, which is a million times better. I think Jacks may have been good when it was a 'pioneer' in ED before there were so many other choices, now, it seems to have little to recommend it. Nero
I have always had good grub and good service at Jacks. The cakes are the best. I have never been at weekend, so maybe that is a different matter, or maybe it was just a bad day, or simply a matter of taste. Quaywe
1) Where is Jacks?2) I like BMC for: The great coffee's done by their kiwi Barista (why are kiwi's so good at making coffee!?)3) I don't like it for: Only eggs they do are scrambled, no baked beans with the Full Monty. Domitianus
I am always amused by the tendency of people to hallucinate some sort of selfless 'pioneering spirit' in those who 'open up' a new shopping area and 'make it what it is today'. I am sure that BM was set up as a business venture with the intention of making money and that the owner was not exactly a visionary who said "I will sacrifice my finances, health, happiness and entire lifetime - struggle by on a pittance - content in the knowledge that those who come after me will benefit from my selfless trailblazing."Of course, I could be wrong. bald marauder
Isn't the point of being a pioneer that you benefit from being seen as a leader, and are actually more successful in the long run? Domitianus
But a leader in what? A leader in opening shops on Northcross Road? I am pointing out simply that this was probably a necessity, not an attempt to open up grand new vistas.
