eh? When did I say you were offensive Declan? I haven't even implied it!

You were lobbing things my way yesterday which I took time to reply but you ignored me (fireworks thread)

I genuinely have no idea what your beef is with me

My quote (from someone lots of people haven;t heard of, but don't let that stop you looking him up - he's ace. I've seen him at least 3 times in venues in East Dulwich. So not that obscure)... but my quote was meant to indicate I agreed with Quids point in general - but because of the state we are in we can't have that level of debate yet

What IS your problem with me ?? How was my post parish priestish?

You never said I was offensive Sean as far as I know.I put that in to try and avoid any future offence. Obviously didn't work. What's this about me lobbing stuff at you in the fireworks thread. What thread? I'm getting old and the memory is letting me down so please be specific. Thanks.

HOW VERY DARE YOU!

I see myself as more of an upmarked version of Sophie Ellis-Bexter, with the looks of a young Kristen Scott Thomas. Britney is not for everyone...

Bottom line is both posters repeatedly transgressed the TOU of this place.

Both were repeatedly warned, both were repeated offenders.

Both are banned.

TLS alleged racism is neither here nor there nor ever a part of his ban.

I too am uncomfortable with the bandying about of accusations and the inability of those concerned to defend themselves, but HAL's assertion that BBW's posts were the equivalent of a disorder that needs attention and sympathy almost made me spit my coffee on to the keyboard. Wolfie would be the first to say 'i am what i am, i stand by what i say and I accept the consequences' for that I rather admire him, certainly more than many who post on here, but allow him back? Not until I see a change (though not my call obviously).

There has been much accusation of the illuminati, stepford, lizard variety that unwelcome views are suppressed, yet those all seem to revel in voices that are antisocial and 'controversial' regardless of the often poisonous reactions they engender and the deep upset they cause.

This thread excepted, I for one am glad the lounge is a quieter place. The forum's recent absence and my willingness to wander back to places like Thisislondon or other fora where entrenched anger ridden slanging somehow qualifies for debate makes me even happier to welcome back the EDF's return. Long may it continue to be a refuge of the ludicrously bonkers yet sane.

Admin took a decision for the good of the forum, tough decisions but I'm happy to back Admin for that.

For those who feel the place is poorer for their removal, and they are entitled to that opinion, there are other fora where they still have a voice.

Go, enjoy.

Word.

Racism is not always black and white (worst pun of the week award). There is a whole spectrum of beliefs and attitudes out there... and although his views often left a bitter taste in the mouth, neither was he the most offensive person I am ever likely to encounter. Pigeonholing him as an out-and-out racist is not necessarily accurate or fair.

I don't think he is a particularly rare breed. In fact, he probably speaks for a much greater proportion of the community than a lot of us here would like to acknowledge. He quite possibly mixes in social circles where they regularly bemoan the demise of traditional English society, and where immigration is blamed for many of the country's problems. Such people undoubtedly do not consider themselves to be racist... but Tony is quite obviously coming from a totally different frame of reference than most of us. Sometimes discussing these things (as tricky as it was sometimes with Tony) is more constructive than accusations of racism.

If we're going to start forming into clicks on here, can I just say that I think all the cats on here are for the most part lollygaggers and yeggs, but the chicks are all straight from the fridge and ginchy.

Can't say fairer or hepper than that.

    • Does anyone know when the next SNT meeting is? I am fed up with my son being mugged on East Dulwich Grove!
    • The issue must be everywhere at the moment. I was visiting a friend last week in Bermondsey, think we were walking  down Linton Rd & we dodged 7 dog poos. It was disgusting.
    • Thanks for your message — I actually took the time to look into what CityHive does before posting my original comment, and I’d encourage anyone with questions to do the same. Yes, the Companies House filings are overdue — but from what I’ve gathered, this seems likely to be an accountant or admin issue, not some sign of ill intent. A lot of small, community-based organisations face challenges keeping up with formalities, especially when they’re focused on immediate needs like food distribution. Let’s not forget CityHive is a not-for-profit, volunteer-powered CIC — not a corporate machine. As for the directors, people stepping down or being replaced is often about capacity or commitment — which is completely normal in the voluntary and community sector. New directors are sometimes appointed when others can no longer give the time. It doesn’t automatically mean bad governance — it just means people’s circumstances change. CityHive’s actual work speaks volumes. They buy most of the food they distribute — fresh produce, essential groceries, and shelf-stable items — and then deliver it to food banks, soup kitchens, and community projects across London. The food doesn’t stay with CityHive — it goes out to local food hubs, and from there, directly to people who need it most. And while yes, there may be a few paid staff handling logistics or admin, there’s a huge volunteer effort behind the scenes that often goes unseen. Regular people giving their time to drive vans, sort donations, load pallets, pack food parcels — that’s what keeps things running. And when people don’t volunteer? Those same tasks still need to be done — which means they have to be paid for. Otherwise, the whole thing grinds to a halt. As the need grows, organisations like CityHive will inevitably need more support — both in people and funding. But the bigger issue here isn’t one small CIC trying to make ends meet. The real issue is the society we live in — and a government that isn’t playing its part in eradicating poverty. If it were, organisations like CityHive, The Felix Project, City Harvest, FareShare, and the Trussell Trust wouldn’t need to exist, let alone be thriving. They thrive because the need is growing. That’s not a reflection on them — it’s a reflection on a broken system that allows people to go hungry in one of the richest cities in the world. If you're in doubt about what they’re doing, go check their Instagram: @cityhivemedia. You’ll see the real organisations and people receiving food, sharing thanks, and showing how far the impact reaches. Even Southwark Foodbank has received food from CityHive — that alone should speak volumes. So again — how does any of this harm you personally? Why spend time trying to discredit a group trying to support those who are falling through the cracks? We need more people lifting others up — not adding weight to those already carrying the load.
    • Well, this is very disappointing. Malabar Feast  has changed its menu again. The delicious fish curry with sea bass no longer exists. There is now a fish dish with raw mango, which doesn't appeal. I had dal and spinach instead, which was bland (which I suppose I could/should have predicted). One of my visitors had a "vegetable Biriani" which contained hardly any vegetables. Along with it came two extremely tiny pieces of poppadom in a large paper bag.   This was embarrassing, as I had been singing Malabar's praises and recommending we ordered from there. The other mains and the parathas were OK, but I doubt we will be ordering from there again. My granddaughters wisely opted for Yard Sale pizzas, which were fine. Has anybody else had a similar recent poor (or indeed good!)  experience at Malabar Feast?
