Seve Ballesteros

Mick Mac

Recommended Posts

There is a tribute on BBC at the moment.

Seve was my golfing hero growing up (and everyone elses too). He was a special competitor and an entertainer. He could not control his golf or be controlled. He was exciting and entertaining.

It is sad to see him grow old too soon with his brain tumour. But some great flashbacks to a great career.

[He played the great shot out of the bunker at the Ryder Cup against Ray Floyd with a Tony Penna wood - I remember those - don't know if anyone else does - they were one of the best wooden clubs made prior to the metal clubs coming into popularity].

A great man and I hope he achieves his ambition of coming to the Open at St Andrews next year - that will draw a big crowd.

Its very nostalgic viewing.

I chased him round the clubhouse at the Irish Open at Royal Dublin in the early 1980s but he ran faster than me and all his other pursuers - he was the only autograph I did not get, but he was the biggest star in the golfing world then, it was good just to see him in the flesh.

    • Another recomendation for Robert Mills. Our thermostat was on the blink, called Monday and came yesterday and serviced the boiler and fixed the thermostat, Fab service.
    • Yes there is certainly inconsiderate behaviour but the problem is made worse in the ED area due to the inadequate pavement width. See attached map, source is p13 in https://content.tfl.gov.uk/lsp-app-six-b-strategic-neighbourhoods-analysis-v1.pdf. Isn't it striking how much narrower pavements are across Southwark than neighbouring Lambeth for instance? That's why it was wrong for Southwark to limit the survey to just a few streets and why radical solutions to how rubbish & recycling are stored are needed. And yes maybe that includes some sort of ban on leaving bins out on narrow pavements. Plus perhaps underground communal bins like on the continent or maybe an interim solution of large bins replacing a car parking space or two.
