I'm still waiting for a large book that was sent by 1st class post on 26th November from a reputable seller, and also an important CD of designs also sent first class over a week ago. My regular postmen are great, as are the guys at the sorting office so no complaints about them, but there's definitely a problem somewhere before it gets to them... I live just off Lordship lane.
I agree that post in this area is terrible...the only stuff I have received since moving here in the last few months is from the royal mail redirection I set up. I have no confidence that anything will arrive and it is really worrying. I only seem to get flyers for pizza delivery...I wouldn't mind but after reading so much about the great indian restaurants on Lordship Lane on this forum, I am disappointed not to get flyers from any of these offering delivery :)Now that would take my mind off missing post.....

I've had consistent delays of 2-3 weeks on a lot of items that don't fit through the letterbox, since the original strike. Two days ago I had a small package delivered -- it was postmarked 13th November!

According to the chaps at the sorting office there's a permanent backlog (dating from the first strike) that they've not managed to work through, which is why there are still delays.

I've also noticed several Christmas cards part-opened over the past few days. I thought the first couple were a coincidence, but now I'm not sure. Anyone else notice this?

A quick update. I raised this matter via the Chief Executive's office on 2 December and drew their attention to this thread.

I received an acknowledgement on the same day and a promise that the matter would be investigated. I have chased a response again today pointing out the continuing widespread concern on this issue and the increasing urgency in the run-up to Christmas. I will keep pressing and share any further updates via this thread.

Tessa Jowell MP

Thank's Tessa it's good to see a MP who is willing to get involved at grass root levels on local problems, Agathosie for a long time now we have had (part opened mail) if you go back on this thread it is not an isolated case.

Last Christmass some one had a card opened and money removed.

To all read TJMP thread.

I arrived at Silvester Road this morning, 24 hours since the card was pushed into my mail box. Big queue from the office to the road. Stood for about 20 minutes only to be told "Its not here yet mate, try next week".

I only live half a mile away! How does it take days to get back to the depot?

Yep MikeP the queue Silvester Road just keep's getting longer because so many of us are NOT reiceving our post many have said that their parcels are not turning up, but it is the normal post (bills, cards, letters, appointments, bank statements.) All the things you rely on in a normal environment to live in society communicating with the every day services not turning up that realy angers me.

Bob S

I've been in all day today especially to receive a delivery, but clearly the postman couldn't be bothered to wait the 30 seconds it would take me to come downstairs and open the door for a parcel, so it's been whisked off to Silvester Road (well, I say "whisked". But that suggests it's being done with haste. Michael Palaeologus's experience suggests otherwise).

I'm so bored the post problems round here that from now on I'm going to get any important deliveries, such as Christmas presents, sent to my parents' house in Wimbledon. I'd rather drive across town to pick them up than risk them taking a month to be delivered/not being delivered at all/being part opened by someone nosey.

Not yet but THAT would be an insult!

How are they part-opened? Surely to see if anything was in them (eg money) you'd have to open them completely?

I checked the website today, as suggested by Silvester Road. According to that my parcel hadnt even be delivered to me yet. Went up to Silvester Road, to be told that the parcel will be at Nine Elms. They are then delivering parcels from Nine Elms to Silvester Road. Not what I would call efficient.

Apparently registered post is scanned when you take it to the Post Office but at no point until it is either delivered to you or returns to your local depot if "you are not in". So, if it goes to somewhere else in between (such as Nine Elms), there is no tracking of its whereabouts.

I have to keep checking the website until somebody can be bothered to deliver the Parcel to Silvester Road and somebody there gets round to scanning it in.

As before "Contract Couriers" are getting the blame for the delays and problems.

Also - while I was at Silvester Road the chap in front of me was given not just the Parcel he had a card for but also a Parcel which had been at Silvester Road for some time, but for which he had not received a card. Again, apprently Contract Couriers were to blame.

If these Contractors are so bad, why do they continue to use them?

I ordered some pet supplies of e-bay, well after the strikes, two weeks later nothing, i contacted sellers to check on estimated delivery times, both said they had sent them the day i ordered, one package contained aquarium plants, the seller kindly sent them again as he said i should have had them by now, i got them 3 days later. Today the original plants he sent turned up, 4 weeks after being posted, they were pretty mouldy and very dead.

We have had a lot of post gone missing lately, also trying several ways to stop postman cutting across flower bed dividing our garden and our neighbors, they have trampled every plant in their way, kicked away bricks put there to stop them as well.they actually only have to walk a couple of feet to get to a path to get to our door, might have to invest in a large holly bush

Update on my missing post in the hope that Tessa Jowell has some luck getting someone to take this seriously!

Missing DVD has now arrived, took a month in first class post from UK

Missing parcel has now arrived, took a month in first class post

Missing birthday present from Hong Kong still not arrived, posted in late October

Missing birthday present still not arrived, posted from Barnes 17 November

Missing Christmas present for my 2 yr old boy still not arrived, waiting for a month, sent first class from the UK

Also:

Have now received three xmas cards that have obviously been opened and one bit of correspondence from my bank which has been opened, which I have had to contact them and tell them about just in case some fraud is going on.

It is a mystery to me how the Royal Mail is still in business. I run a local business and if I treated my customers like this we, quite rightly, wouldn't last ten minutes!
