two of my missing packages turned up today! No thanks to the post office! They had been delivered to the same number house as mine in Heber road instead of Goodrich Road!!! Fortunately the gentleman who they were delivered to came round to let me know which was really nice of him. Not everyone would be so honest.

I can understand a letter getting caught up with others and going astray but largeish parcels being delivered two roads away is just careless!! Can the postman not read?!?!?!

Wonder where my other two missing parcels are....... Ive contacted CD wow but they wont do anything until 21 days have passed! At least when I was at work I could get things delivered there!

Amazon did not renew their contract with Royal Mail following the recent strike, or so I read.

The last parcel I had from Amazon, a couple of days back, came via another postal service, can't remember which now as I've thrown away the card they left (to tell me the parcel was with my neighbour)

Also, I've ordered a load of stuff online recently, and it's all arrived fine.

I'm in Ulverscroft Road.

I've rarely had problems with Royal Mail but I did have an incident where a courier left a card to say my parcel was "in the bin" (it was - luckily not on bin day) and another where a courier left a parcel outside my house in pouring rain :-S

I'm missing ?70 worth of photo Christmas cards for friends and family overseas. If they don't show up in the next few days they are useless to me. Should have been here three weeks ago (which I thought I gave plenty of time even for Royal Mail).

This was a splurge for us........ a small connection with loved ones we can't see. I'm quite sad actually.

If you want to do something about this mess you might consider signing up for this Royal Mail Surveys.

It involves posting and receiving items of mail in the post, you log-in to a website and enter the the details of the items of mail. For this they send you books of stamps 12x1st & 4x1st Large. I've been doing it for a year(in SE15) and have had about ?100+ worth of stamps. Sometimes they ask you to do a special survey where you record for 2 weeks the amount of post and any mis-deliveries you get, for this they pay you ?12 in 'Lovetoshop' vouchers.

It can be quite time consuming on occasions(easy if your the organised type), so would be ideal for part-time workers, Pensioners or Mums and not ideal for commuting city types.

Have had a PM from TJMP it was sent 14:27 saying that she will look in to post at Silvester Rd sorting office.

Got to say big it up for the TJ on coming back so PDQ thank's to you and let's see if they responde to your enquires.

Just had a call from the V&A querying some post that was sent to us (apparently) and then returned to sender - I assume that it was wrongly delivered and someone just sent it back - I checked and they had got the correct address - a bit much when you are asked whether you have another address that stuff could be more safely sent to than one in SE London!.

"You haven't got the wrong address", I told them, "we've just got the wrong postal service".

Having said that, the guys at Silvester Rd who find things for you are generally excellent, and seem as p'd off by the poor service we are getting as we are. Reading between the lines the problems are caused by (a) post still held up in sorting from the series of unoffical strikes we had in the summer (they just work down towards the bottom of the pile, having dealt with newer stuff as it comes in, hence some of the huge delays) despite official claims that things are now back to 'normal' and (b) temporary and casual staff.

I used to use that post box and discovered the same thing, that items I posted were not arriving at there destination. a few of my neighbours have also noted the same thing...

Just had 1 letter delivered to me this morning on Lordship Lane & guess what it wasnt even mine. The next door neighbours! I could understand if a stray letter had slipped into my pile of mail but even 1 and they cant even get the house number right! Pure carelessness.

I've literally (yes - at nearly 9pm) just had a parcel from Amazon of stuff which I only ordered at the weekend.

I said to the guy crikey that was quick and he said that they were trying to get things out quickly before Christmas.

I didn't pay for delivery at all. It didn't come via Royal Mail. It says HDNL on it, but that could be a reference code.

It wasn't Royal Mail

I am having continual problems with parcel deliveries. I had an order dispatched from 'Play' 12 days ago and it has not arrived. It contains my son's christmas present. Play won't even look into it until 21 days have passed and by then there will be no time to order another one. I'm not sure where the parcels come from before Sylvester Road, but I think that maybe where the issues lie. I have been having problems with parcel deliveries since September.

Sue,

I too have had things delivered via amazon not from royalmail, but this was direct from dealers have turned up. However the things I have bought direct from Amazon come via Royalmail. I have put in 2 complaints and they have re-sent twice, both annoyingly through Royalmail. I have been refunded the postage though and their customer services have been very good. I have to wait 3 more days and then they will not send me another one out, but refund me.

Surely somethings got to be done here. Someone at royalmail is half inching this stuff!!!

I've had a response from TJMP. Says she can raise my specific issue with manager at Silvester Road if I want her to. And that she's asked about the poor service generally.

Sounds like the answer is to go down Silvester ROad in the first place and chase things up. But it really shouldn't be necessary.

I don't want to do any Xmas shopping online because can't be sure that items will be delivered. THat's an appalling state of affairs. This is 2009 not 1809 isn't it? Anyone know the names of the local news reporters that appear on here from time to time, perhaps the local press would be interested? It's certainly a campaign they could really get their teeth into.

Are you sure because the stuff I got yesterday came direct from Amazon, not other dealers advertising on the Amazon site, and was definitely not via Royal Mail.

If you google it there are loads of links to articles about Amazon going elsewhere, here's one:

Royal Mail loses Amazon contract

However I have received a parcel this morning via Royal Mail from a toy company, and again, it was only ordered on Saturday.

I'm not trying to defend Royal Mail, all I'm saying is I have had absolutely no problems with receiving anything I've ordered online, and I order loads.

Edited to add link

Edited again to say the article says the Amazon contract Royal Mail lost was for parcels over 500g, so maybe they're still using Royal Mail for very light packets

CD Wow have had a lot of bad publicity in the past, I'm amazed they're still going.

Since the mail strike finished the Royal Mail service to North Cross Road has been appalling. Days on end with no deliveries then a heap of mail in one day. I am still waiting on six items sent by first class mail on the 25/26 November. It is now 2nd December and no sign of anything. Items from Amazon usually arrive in 2/3 days. No sign of usual next day deliveries. Something is going very wrong either in the Silvester Road office or in the general postal system and it needs to be looked at very seriously. I have lived here for 25 years and I have always received a great postal service especially from the staff in Silvester Road who are always cheerful and helpful but something has changed. What is going on?

Update Sunday 6th December. Today received a large ammount of mail which included all my missing items which had been sent on the 23rd, 25th and 26th of November. I am grateful to have recieved these but still think it is appalling to wait 14 days for items sent by First Class mail. I am sure that the problem lies at the depot in Vauxhall and not with Silvester Road. Someone needs to get a grip and sort this chaos out. In my mind too many managers being paid a fortune to do very little. Responsibility lies at the top, sack those and get competant people in their place. Do not blame the workers at the bottom of the pile they are doing their best.
