sazzle
Definitely report it. It helps police build a more accurate report on the number of crimes and attempted crimes. Ripping your door handle of is criminal damage. The SNT might be able to come round and tell you how to make your kitchen door area more secure, although it sounds like it is secure already. annaj
Yes, report using the non-urgent line (non-urgent as in crime not taking place this moment rather than not important) 03001231212The same thing happened to us a while ago and the police were really helpful and reassuring. Guppy
Thanks ontheedge and sazzle - I've found the information for the safer team so have logged it with them. Fortunately is a wooden door which sticks in the winter! But I'm now feeling very paranoid that they might come back... PeckhamRose
And to reiterate. it is ALWAYS important to log all such calls to the police. If they don't turn up when they should, that's another issue. But if every such occurance was logged then the police would be able to target their resources more appropriately.Apparently! m&m fairy
They were burglars who got spooked and ran off, they wont come back they very rarely do. Always report to the police, this is important because more often than not they have used tools to try and break the door open or perhaps used there foot to kick the door. SOCCO (forensics) will come round and they can take impressions of the tools that were used and prints off doors. They werent successful getting into your house BUT if they were a few streets down and the tools match or the foot prints then ,happy days. You will also get a crime number and it helps the burglary squad to see what areas the active burglars are working in and also it helps you for insurance purposes.Goodluck!
