My Laurence is a batchelor, in case any of you young ladies are interested!

I says to him last night, I says, while we do love you living here, Laurence, I can't be hoovering round your feet for another forty two years, it's time you found yourself a lady friend. Me and Mr Buttons won't be around forever, you know!

(it's true, though, my knees ain't what they was, and Mr B has his chest, so we wouldn't say no to the Sheltered. they have the Singing Postman on Wednesdays!..but I don't like to tell Laurence, it'd only upset him.)

Anyways, he just gives me that little smile he does, then he offers to take Snoopy out. you know, it was half eleven. Freezing!

They didn't get in till half five this morning when Mr Buttons was poaching his eggs!

ooh, sorry I missed you earlier, girls- I've been busy with my rissoles

No, dear, Laurence is far too young for Miss Streisand. He prefers what I believe is called "nosebleed techno"

dear me, what a racket! Mr Buttons says reminds him of the ack ack guns in Vicky Park...

and as for your kind offers, Daizie and emc, you both sound delightful young ladies and I shall let Laurence know the minute he gets back- would you believe, he's just popped out with the dog again! Poor Snoopy won't have any legs left at this rate!

*splutters*..Legal Eagle - of all the people to utter such a comment! Tsk!

But am I the only one who imagined someone completely different to have a moniker of Skids? You look so wholesome darling.

    • We got Leon back to wire in our new oven. He is excellent: responsive, friendly, does a good job, and happy to take small jobs. Highly recommended! +44 7707 925039
    • It’s been closed for several months, I think.
    • I've not posted any restaurant reviews here for a while, but with the long Easter weekend approaching I thought I'd serve an update. I recently reviewed The Palmerston and elsewhere became involved in a debate about the best pub lunch in SE22. So which ones do people here currently rate?  Yes I know people can just do a search for "Best pub lunch" but as well as new eateries popping up all the time two of the places I've reviewed – EDT and Bishop – have had a reboot since I reviewed them so I'm interested in hearing how they are doing now. FYI I'm still not charging people to read my reviews or subscribe (though they can pay if they are inclined) and I still haven't had any cease and desist letters from other food people who have used the word "Eats" in their name. And I put a lot of work into these reviews. They aren't just a couple of dashed off sentences saying what is good/bad. When not doing this for fun I'm a professional journalist. If people want to nitpick and be pedantic I'll just have to learn to live with it. https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/
    • Have there been any happy outcomes yet?  I was reminded of this thread by Kate Bradbury's recent two minute Radio4 Tweet of the Day spot on swifts and swift boxes.  She even plays their calls out of her window hoping to attract them.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0029yp8 Coincidentally, last week I came across a planning condition attached to the permission (24/AP/3592) granted to the old Melbourne Grove GP premises, that they install "no less than four bee bricks."  They're specifically for so-called solitary bees, who seem to be regarded as equally busy and deserving.  Kate B. mentioned that Brighton now attaches a similar condition, requiring swift boxes in all new-builds.  Might Southwark be doing so too?
