Does anyone know the rules for commercial builders operating hours? I had it in mind that they weren't supposed to work on a Sunday, but I had a faceful/eyeful of dust from a house on North X Rd that was having it's brickwork cleaned yesterday.

Don't suppose the neighbours were that happy

OK. I suppose the reason is that we'd all like a day off, if there's been building work nearby. And in ED, where isn't there building work? It can really get on one's nerves after 5 days of it. I speak from experience.

And builders need a day off too. Rushed jobs + tiredness = accidents

And it's hard to "rest" with some bloke and a kangol operating next door. I think its to protect our weekends as time to relax and enjoy the garden etc - noise free preferably.

Personally I don't care about the Sabbath - but it is good for society if we coordinate our down time.

As well as the operating hours they are also supposed to minimise the pollution by containing dust. I reckon the fact that we have the third worst death rate from asthma in the EU is partly due to uncontrolled building work, and rules not being enforced, and the builders are not aware of the rules or choose to ignore them until a concerned citizen phones the Council.
