malumbu
In Family Guy it is Dancing in the Streets (Bowie and Jagger) which looking back is truly embarrassing - they use a not particularly PC description on FG due to all the floucing around.I thought of starting this thread after watching BBC4 last Friday on cover versions. The first programme was on covers that were as good (if not better) than the originals. This was followed by an awful 'covers on the BBC' programme with some pretty dreadful poptastic songs and videos. The one that really got me (the cover that should be put back in the I Hate 1981 Box) was Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin - the former Motown hit 'It's my Party'. What a horrid version but worse still was the skinny keyboard player with some bizarre semi bondage leather top with side straps and buckles. Urggggh yuckkk. Otta
Loz Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Worst (and completely unnecessary) cover version:> American Pie - Madonna. That was bad. As was Cheryl Crow's Sweet child. The Bowie / Jagger vid is probably the worst ever music video. I can't think of anything that can match it in terms of pure cringe worthy rubbishness, but there have been some ludicrous ones over the years. As a teenager I loved the big budget extravagant Guns n' roses videos to songs like "November Rain". I look at them now and cringe. The "Don't Cry" vid is still pretty cool though. LadyNorwood
The Dame and Bing - Little Drummer Boy..... I can't bear to watch it, it's hideous - Bing doesn't know who the Dame is or what he's doing there and the Dame is, well just being the Dame! malumbu
Talking Xmas E17 Stay Another Day with the white fur suits. Funnily enough I didn't mind but it was quickly withdrawn. On the other extreme all Duran Duran vids from the mid 80s were so over the top, not exactly lame though Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/82614-most-lame-pop-video/#findComment-928171 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
99.9 per-cent of pop videos are totally lame. Impossible to choose the worst as there is so much choice. Louisa
My tuppence worth comes in the form of this 1981 classic from Kiki Dee, "Star". Probably best remembered as the theme tune to Bob Monkhouse's Opportunity Knocks. Take note of the bored popcorn eaters at 37 seconds in, behind Kiki, I do miss the 80's terribly. http://youtu.be/iKVas1Qozo4Louisa. Otta
I think some music videos are great. Some are funny (intentionally), some are dark, some add a different dimension to the song. malumbu
I think this thread is dead as I peeped at the song for the weekend thread where there are some pretty frightening vids. IF you are quick you will see the ladies in leotards and the blokes in tight and bright football kits, with matching 70s hair. Dunno what the song was if anyone can find out.Obviously the best vid in the world is Johnny Cash - Hurt. Various ones of NIN doing 'their' song are also superb.
