chicknic
There is a nice friendly lollipop lady on Camberwell Grove, who has been by McNeil Road for at least the last couple of years on school days. However, a number of months ago a pedestrian crossing was installed exactly where she works.Even though this is in use, the lollipop lady is still there! It seems so pointless and a waste of money, particularly this week as the road is closed off for roadworks on railway bridge. There must be so many other roads/schools that would benefit from a lollipop lady (or by the looks of other posts, a parking monitor(!)... the poor woman looks bored out her mind! candj
I often see lollipop ladies (or men) working at pedestrian crossings. I think it's just to make doubly sure that people stop for school children. There is even a lollipop man working at the junction of Townley and LL at the traffic lights! HAL9000
We can never have too many lollipop persons - there're the salt of the Earth. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8251-lollipop-lady-on-camberwell-grove/#findComment-254624 Share on other sites
Piggy
There are actually two lollipop men working the Townley Road crossing and they take helpfulness to an extreme level. When they seem me approaching the crossing one of them will press the button so the green man appears at the optimum moment then walk into the middle of the road, brandishing his lollipop, to assist. Nice but odd. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8251-lollipop-lady-on-camberwell-grove/#findComment-254666 Share on other sites
EDKiwi
There is a lollipop lady who works on the pedestrian crossing on Barry Rd just by my house, but considering a lot of drivers seem oblivious to the existence of the crossing I think it's well worth her being there. ????
Wasn't it a lollipop lady who initially exposed the clown child-snatcher? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8251-lollipop-lady-on-camberwell-grove/#findComment-254795 Share on other sites
jim_the_chin
The McNeill road lady wasn't so friendly if cars stopped to let her and people across, she would become quite angry as if it usurped her role as the stopper of cars. Domitianus
I knew a lollipop lady once - she had a very thin body and a large round, sticky head.
