It's been dragging on way too long. Bored of it now. Either a) knock it down and build something pleasant or b) just leave it as it is. All this 'co-design' stuff and endless meetings is just layered beaureaucratic nonsense the vast majority of local people aren't interested in.

If I read the council documents correctly, destruction of a protected frontage will not get planning pemission

Because I would like to see the ugly concrete pillboxes that front and surround the station pulled down and have a pleasant usable space in their place instead of the dirty dank space that is there.

The whole space from the station to Bellenden road should be razed and developed for the use of all.

You could even have a Dutch style cycle park for comuters instead of row upon row of car repair units and a scrap yard.

It could be the starting point for the railway walk. How pleasant that would be.

It's a regeneration theory that if you improve the gateway into a town centre and make it attractive, it will attract more people who wish to spend money thus leading to the surrounding businesses and properties improving to attract them and their money.

It has worked in other areas but not always...

Hopefully in this case it will and with the night time economy already becoming more vibrant then I don't see it not

People do need their cars serviced/repaired, you know! Do you really mean "for the use of all", because it sounds like you just want something that would suit some people.

Saying that, I support the new station square, the area in front of the station at the moment is scruffy, unpleasant and dirty. And judging by the frequent stink of piss, some toilet facilities would also be welcome.

There used to Public Toilets in Melon Road.

Also between the station and the covered market (Holly Grove?) and again in Heaton Rd.

All long gone I believe. ?? People do get caught short.. Southwark have done nothing.

And you dont consider the rear of the station scruffy, unpleasant and dirty.

This whole exercise will result in a mish mash without any defined long term plan for the future.

Still those campaigning will no doubt have moved on to the next hotspot or moved to the next family home with the kids.

Scruffy in places, yes. But they're private businesses set back from the street. You're not forced to walk right through it.

Not through it but pass them. Most of the pavements abutting are impassable during working hours.

If you are going to do something worthwhile do it, this has been the problem for a very long time, Dont do this or that because it will upset .

Opportunity missed. If you factor in the Holly Grove Park you could work wonders.

Southwark have been taking the piss (or rather the lack of it) concerning public toilets for years

There were purpose built brick toilets at one time, but they were closed due to 'naughty night time activity' by males in the area, then they proposed a loo with a view in Peckham square (cancelled due to cost) so hopefully they will get it right this time, especially as the majority of the time that people get caught short is nighttime when clubs and bars are closed or closing...

I agree Rye Lane is certainly scruffy. Surely that's a good argument FOR improvements? No?

It is only a matter of time and will.

The first step has been taken with the Overground Line linking Peckham with the City and Docklands. That has generated a demand for more flats, hence the filling in of long empty plots of land and the redevelopment/ demolition of old buildings.

The redevelopment of the Station and Rye Lane will steadily happen, when large enough cheques are dangled.

Tear the whole lot down, open the square, preserve and improve the station, build the flats that are needed, reprovide some retail and in doing so create proper servicing access, enforce against the tumble weave offenders, enforce against the fruit and veg chuckers.

Improve the public realm from the disgrace to urban design it is at present. Whilst you're at it, the multi sorry is a total waste of space, so get with the times, tear that down as well and replace with mixed use scheme with resi, incubator space, arts space - whatever really- just make better use of under utilised previously developed land.

Louisa, totally right. Codesign, great in theory, terrible when it come to delivery.

There are no pillboxes and very little concrete.

Why don't you visit the buildings to see how they are constructed?
