WARNING - Don't pay at the pump at the (especially the Shell Garage in Crystal Palace)

Recommended Posts

Just had a call from my credit card provider in respect of some suspicious activity on my card. Turns out someone has had a bit of a spree on my behalf and has racked up about ?5k.

I should get it all back, however it's a bit a of mare as I'm off to Italy next week and always use my card when abroad. The transactions made me laugh when she read them out on the phone. 3 of them in particular:

?1,353 in Threshers Wine Shop

?1.98 in MacDonalds ?785 in Threshers Wine Shop

Fancy using a cloned card for a MacDonald's. Tight arses!!!

Was suspicious about the transactions as they're all local to me so I asked the girl as the only local payment that I've made was for petrol. Apparently the most common cause of card cloning is at petrol pumps, so I have now learnt my lesson.

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else uses that petrol station. The Shell garage that is.

Ironically, there was a queue at that one which is why I went to Crystal Palace. Don't know the area that well and ended up a little lost on the way back and had to pay to use the toll road.

My impatience turned out to be a pricey decision.

Amazes me Anna that the Threshers staff did not check out the card with such a big purchase.

Anyway, hope you get the money back.

You're sure you didn't spend it when you were drunk? Have you checked the wine cellar?

Ha ha - no I was at Upton Park all day Saturday.

I'm surprised too - I checked the transactions again earlier and they went in twice on the same day. I think Threshers should be held accountable as I'd be suspicious of such a large spend. Annoyed with my credit card company too for letting them spend so much before noticing it. I have never put that much on my credit card full stop, let alone over a single weekend.

    • Hi there. If you have any half-tins of varnish (or any type of wood finish) that you're not going to use and you would like to get rid of it without dumping it, i can come and collect and will put it to good use.  I am interested in all wood finishes, natural or synthetic, including: varnish, tung oil, Danish oil, teak oil, linseed oil, polyeurathane, acrylic, wood stain, decking oil, deck varnish, yacht varnish, spar varnish, lacquer, beeswax, shellac, etc. (no paint thanks). Let me know what you have and we can agree a pickup time. Also happy to do contactless collection if you prefer to just leave it outside.  Thanks
    • It doesn't need redeveloping.  The skate park is a perfect use.
