midivydale
Help a foreigner please:). If a child has been invited to a halloween party will any fancy dress costume do or does it "have" to be halloween specific? yeknomyeknom
Halloween would be normal. Other kids will mostly be Halloween I should imagine. But no one will be offended by a non Halloween theme. midivydale
Thanks! So is it likely he will turn up as the only pirate/superhero whatever and most/all other kids will be vampires frankenstein scary type things?Dont want him to feel left out or get laughed at, but maybe at 3 1/2 he would be too young to notice? Hm... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919132 Share on other sites
etta166
No. My kids will be going as Michael Jackson, a minion and a princess. It's very variable. The best costume we saw last year was a jellyfish. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919142 Share on other sites
Belle
It varies - I saw some fabulous minecraft costumes one year, definitely not halloweeny! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919177 Share on other sites
Pickle
A bit of black eye makeup and any costume can be given a ghoulish edge :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919183 Share on other sites
yeknomyeknom
Make him a zombie pirate or zombie superhero or a zombie anything with a bit of face paint. oimissus
at aged 3 1/2 I think most children would be witches, skeletons, pumpkins or cats. I think it depends on whether or not you think he would mind being different from the rest? I don't think the other children would notice or comment. midivydale
Aww, Thanks all, he wants to go as "pirate jake" so lets go with that. Fingers crossed he wont change his mind. Have an unpleasant memory of me being laughed at as a child at a fancy dress thing but we were much older.Note to self to stop projecting own neurotic behavious on to child...Precious first born syndrome anyone? etta166
I find the choice of Michael Jackson a bit disturbing, but obviously my son is oblivious to the connotations... midivydale
Arguably rather suitable for Halloween :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919312 Share on other sites
Otta
Michael Jackson Thriller is iconic, whatever else followed. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919330 Share on other sites
hellosailor
I believe this came up in a thread here years ago but when I was about 5 or 6 my mum made me dress up for a party as a poacher, complete with my soft toy bunnies stripped of their clothes and strung upside down with garden twine from a pole.It wasn't even Halloween, just a regular kids birthday party. Everyone else went as a princess. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-919426 Share on other sites
scareyt
Ha Hellosailor I remember laughing hysterically at that thread! Genius. Most kids will be in 'scary' costumes but not all. Last year my son was Peter Pan & this year he's Yoda.Etta I can't wait to see your collection! mimosa
This has been doing the rounds but I do think it's the scariest one I've seen this year:http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/30/call-off-the-search-weve-officially-found-the-scariest-halloween-costume-of-the-year-5471834/And a quite a local sign she's holding ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/80683-halloween-etiquette/#findComment-920520 Share on other sites

treehugger
Just to say that I happen to be in California this Halloween and people are dressing up as whatever. The funniest sight I saw was a guy pushing a baby in a buggy with a unicorn head piece and unicorn hooves. We heard his wife saying to him can you see darling" and his plaintive reply, " I can just about see you". Let's hope it never comes to that in North Cross road.
