Had phonecall from upset friend who was told by the school that there was no chance of their child getting into Goodrich nursery as the catchment is 200m at the mo????

I know this is true for Heber but Goodrich has a big nursery. Things are bad but this is way beyond a joke.

Did anyone get in who lives further? (obviously without siblings etc)

It seems to have shrunk in that year, extra siblings due to bulge class? Goodrich said they go on distance from the nursery measured by some council system. If there are no nursery places for the local children then thats one major issue that needs to be addressed. If people have been faking their addresses for the last few years thats another.

There is going to be a government 'scrutiny' meeting in ED in the 12th of October on primary and nursery places, where we should get some answers. Place to be anounced but open to public and the more the merrier!

There is a facebook site to unite parents concerned about the crisis in local school places

PS do really want to know if admissions catchment for nursery has shrunk again this yeart as it predicts places next!

Entry to reception years is governed by Southwark admission ctriteria but these don't apply to nursery places .

It seems that the individual school decides this.

Recent post from Mellors on different thread seems to suggest that primary schools file nursery applications by D. O. B.

This was the case many moons ago at Goodrich and was another way the education system disadvantaged the summer born so I'm hoping it isn't still the system used.

Your point being? We should put up or shut up?

There are NO places for first borns in vast areas of Se22, think of it as an early warning system for primary places!!

I posted because I felt that reacting to the shortfall in school nursery places in the same way that people are reacting to the shortage of primary school places in this part of the borough was slightly odd.

Southwark doesn't have an obligation to provide places for all it's 3 year olds in school nurseries in the same way that it does for primary school age children

As far as I know there's always been a shortfall in nursery places, although the situation has improved in recent years.

There is obviously a problem at present with a shortage of primary school places in this part of the borough and this clearly needs addressing.

But I don't think that you can automatically assume that the shortfall in nursery places is a direct indicator of a shortage of primary school places.

    • All the parents looking after their kids instead of skiving from their meaningless desk jobs might mean it's quieter on here. Still, at least it gives free rein to the bad-tempered, long-winded pensioners that begin their posts "having resided in Dulwich for a not inconsiderable number of decades, may I be so bold as to suggest..." 😉

    • We have been patients at Sternhall Lane for years. Our experience has generally been incredibly positive with speedy responses and very helpful staff. We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.

Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
