loveshovel
Hello,Was wondering if any of you guys have ever found that there is post waiting for you at the sorting office but that no card has been left? Having a bit of a dispute with an online company who reckon that may be the case, but slack as Royal Mail can be at times, I've never had that situation! I know there are some threads about phone numbers for Silvester Road but due to the technical ineptitude I can't find it? Could anyone help me out?Cheers guys. EDKiwi
Here you go...Sorting office phone numberGenerally Royal Mail seem pretty good at leaving cards, but I have had a situation where a card was not left, and also one where a blank card was left (both outside East Dulwich). I think if you contact the office and have the correct ID they will let you pick up any packages without a card if you explain the situation. loveshovel
Thank you very much for this! I tried calling the number but it doesn't seem to be working so might have to call some kind of central number. Really wish things were kept local, I hate sitting in phone queues! But that's enough moaning for one Monday. Thank you! RosieH
I have a card here with a different number on it - try this: 08456 112448 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-247601 Share on other sites
kpc
Suspect service erratic at present due to industrial action. Had one recorded item delivered on Saturday without being signed for and awating another (which was dispatched last Monday). ziggy
I went to Silvester Road on Thursday morning for this very reason, but there was no post there. Two things I had been expecting then arrived Friday and Saturday. Both had been somewhere in the system for almost 2 weeks (First class UK). I'm guessing there must be a sizeable backlog. cactus
Recently I bought an item from ebay which never arrived, I'd given up hope after about 10 days, but the seller suggested that I check with the post office just in case they had it. I went alongto Silvester Road, thinking it was a complete waste of time and there it was! There had been no cardleft with us, so I guess from time to time this kind of thing does happen, definitely go and check. Fuschia
Last time I went to pick up a parcel, there were two old packages from ages back I'd given up hope on and reported lost in the post (no card left) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-247828 Share on other sites

The Nappy Lady
I've had this happen to Nappy Lady customers loads of times - no card left, but item waiting at the Post Office, it makes me furious.Molly Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-247915 Share on other sites
Sue
You should all complain, there's no excuse for it, it only takes the postie a minute to write a card and it's causing massive inconvenience.I've had the opposite - card left, I trek round to the sorting office, and it turns out to be a Viking catalogue :))I must have a very conscientious postie! Sue
Well here's a new take on things ....Just got back from work. I have a very small letterbox.Found on the mat an empty jiffy bag (posted First Class, definitely Royal Mail) and six separate ink cartridges strewn about.Evidently the postie couldn't get the parcel through the letter box in one go, so used his/her initiative. Not sure whether to be glad or annoyed .... HonaloochieB
If they do anything approaching that with my recently ordered remastered Beatles boxset, I will have no choice but to go postal on them.I doubt any jury would convict me. ludoscotts
our postie always leaves our parcels on the doorstep even though we have asked him not to. and we went away a few weeks ago and expected a parcel to be sat there. it wasnt, i spotted it a week later in the bushes soggy and knackerd from the rain. guess a fox or animal played with it and took it off doorstep. would rather have to go and collect it than this happen. Sue
I once had a courier leave a parcel on the wall outside my house, and of course it was nicked. The funny thing was, it contained a book whose title was something like "How to Get Things For Free".:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-251309 Share on other sites
AlexM
I've had a couple of issues with posties 'using their initiative' and leaving a couple of packages from Amazon on top of my recycling bin. The first I managed to save, but I was away on holiday for the second... I guess the books are currently being recycled! ruthmct
Dropping parcels over the 6 foot high back gate is my least favourite technique! One amazon parcel got heavily rained on - mind you that was a courier service, not the postie.Ruth Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-252476 Share on other sites
Jitka H
hi, the strike might be a reason. We had a same problem and when went to check out the collection office the guy told us that they were going to be delivering on Sunday due to the strike that week. No cards were left and they had a 14 day backlog. Hope this helpsJH Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-252477 Share on other sites

Pickle
We received a royal mail parcel (posted a few weeks ago) today - so they're obviously starting to try and clear the backlog by working Sundays. ruthmct
I went in today for a parcel that hadn't arrived (posted on 9th September). No sign of it, and the delivery office man said they are currently delivering parcels which were posted on 20th September, so the backlog seems to be down to 8 days.Don't know what's happened to my parcel though. Time to go back to the supplierRuth Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7971-post-waiting-for-you-at-the-sorting-office-but-that-no-card-has-been-left/#findComment-253066 Share on other sites

kpc
Ruth - parcel posted 08/09 attempted delivery 25/09 - suspect they have no clear system to clear backlog in place. Good luck!
