I respectfully disagree.

I went to a boarding school from 1969 to 1975 and then got the culture shock of my life as a member of Faraday House at Tulse Hill from '75 to '77.

A teacher from British Guyana called Mr George took pity on me as I was not really working to my potential.

I ended up with a place at Durham University, pretty much because of him.

I am still in touch with a few of the people from there and most of them have done really well for themselves.....

You manifest your own destiny, THS taught me that.

Horses for courses. I was there between '69 and '74. It was a culture shock for me too after being brought up in leafy Dulwich Village. Got mugged on my first day. There were nearly 2,000 kids there when I was there, skinheads and rude boys and nearly all of us wanted to kill each other. It taught me to be street wise. I walked out in the end and told them to stick it up their arse. Never went back. It wasn't all bad though.

Was Mr George an English teacher? If so, I remember him. He was great. I made a point of going to his lessons because he made things interesting. I'd started to write poetry/lyrics and he would greatly encourage me. Lovely man.

I learned survival skills quite quickly, but boarding school is a good preparation for that.

In fact both establishments set me up very well for my subsequent career.

It all seems a little surreal today thinking back, but it definitely was not for the faint hearted!

Mr George was an English teacher, he was one of the few there that actually made a difference.

I guess you were there for the Ali visit?

Do I remember you? I rather think you left a reminder!

That's 13 years' child support please - it was twins so make that double.

They will both be needing work experience later in the year - I can supply the plectrums (like I've supplied all their clothes, food, emotional and spiritual nurture).

Bastard.

    • Hi there. If you have any half-tins of varnish (or any type of wood finish) that you're not going to use and you would like to get rid of it without dumping it, i can come and collect and will put it to good use.  I am interested in all wood finishes, natural or synthetic, including: varnish, tung oil, Danish oil, teak oil, linseed oil, polyeurathane, acrylic, wood stain, decking oil, deck varnish, yacht varnish, spar varnish, lacquer, beeswax, shellac, etc. (no paint thanks). Let me know what you have and we can agree a pickup time. Also happy to do contactless collection if you prefer to just leave it outside.  Thanks
    • It doesn't need redeveloping.  The skate park is a perfect use.
