Is it me or do you find southwark Traffic wardens riding around on there mopeds hiding around street corners writing out there tickets then slapping them on your car without even seeing them issuing the ticket

saturday i got a ticket for parking on the side entrance of peckham rye park on saturday. has anybody ever appealed a ticket and won???

Were you parked somewhere that was marked as no parking at certain times? I have noticed that if you park in a bay that allows parking for 30 minutes then they come round and make a note of your details and then come back later on to see if you are still there. Then they give you a ticket. Of course there might be some that don't stick to that. Happened to me once outside the library in Grove Vale. I was in there for 10 minutes and came out to find a warden taking note of my car. I thought he was giving me a ticket and he then explained what they do. In the States they chalk your tyre the first time they see the car and then come back again later.

As annoying as it is when they act in this predatory manner, if you're parked illegally then it's your fault!

However, if there is no signage/markings to indicate that you can't park there, then you should appeal as you will probably win (I have done this, but it's a slow process).

if you want to be even more frustrated, find out how much the average scally gets fined if he breaks into a car.. about the same as a Southwark parking ticket!

It is an offence in Southwark to park with your wheels on the pavement ,as I witnessed at least 6 or more doing so on Strakers Road on Saturday when leaving the fete.They were all being ticketed !

That's pretty much a rule London-wide, unless marked otherwise. Have a look at Gallery Road - the cynic in me says that they designed the signage and lines to be purposefully - and profitably - confusing. There is no rhyme nor reason as to where you can and can't park with wheels on the pavement. Every time there is a fair at Belair they make a killing.

always appeal they will always dismiss it out of hand, but then you should go to arbitration. I did and on the day of the hearing got a phone call to say that southwark had not responded and that the ticket was wiped out. apparently they never turn up. most paople just pay up, but I refused cos southwark were wrong more people should stand up to them. they are bullies.

They're just licensed bandits on commission to encourage revenue withdrawal from us awful motorists - I've got off two completley outrageous ones but not without a lot of threat to get there and having independent witnesses be decent enough to say they'd come to court and back me up. I've had 3 others one which was again a complete outrageous one (I was searching for a retail outlet in Peckham Rye that sold those vouchers before they had meters...mmm that was easy andthat took over 5 mins, infact 6 by which tme a bandit had earned his commission) and have also had one for my missus for 6 mins outside a nursery picking up my little girl, one was fair enough as I well overstayed (not deliberately) but no problem with that.

To be clear, I've no problem with parking restrictions or enforcement but this has sadly just become outrageous profiteering...god help us if they try and make residential bits of SE22 restricted parking.

Always appeal. There are so many loopholes for getting off, eg: the Parking Attendant (PA) has to stand on the pavement in front of the car to write the ticket; the PA has to sign and date the ticket correctly; some boroughs insist that the ticket has to be placed on the vehicle to be valid or it's considered a 'ghost ticket'. There are many more. Wort a punt, unless you're blatantly taking the piss by parking on double yellows, in a bus lane/red route or in front of a dropped kerb.

A work colleague and I were ticketed outside our workplace in Camberwell. We were in a Residents Parking area and had permits allowing us to park anywhere in Southwark. All other colleagues with same parking permits were ignored. We appealed, sent photccopies of our permits. Got letter backto say parking fine had been cancelled. View was that the warden did not know that the letters AS meant all Southwark!!

I once parked my motorbike overnight on a spot with restrictions from 9am. I took longer than I meant to finding my keys and got to the bike at 9:01, finding a warden finishing a ticket. I was so angry with this lurker, I gave him such a earful he typed my reg number wrong. Even though the warden took a photo, I appealed and got off. I thought that to be justice!

not sure how to write this but first of all i must say i am a person of colour myself! (before the race card gets thrown at me!)

i have noticed, in peckham on chourmert rd, instead of slapping tickets on illegally parked cars, the wardens stand around socialising with the shop keepers! but yet, on lordship lane they are quick to slap tickets on vehicles!

i've also seen CERTAIN shops on rye lane, when customers are illegally parked whilst shopping they don't hand out tickets that freely, again they stand around chit chatting to them! THIS REALLY PI**ES ME OFF WHEN I SEE IT HAPPENING!

i do wonder sometimes if the wardens are related to one another & also to some of the traders & shoppers?????

Apparently 55% of all traffic fine appeals are successful.

Traffic rules are necessary to ensure that people don't park in dangerous or inappropriate places.

However, nobody told traffic wardens this. Apparently they think that they are there to penalise anyone for any slight breach of rules. And whenever you see a Southwark traffic warden car, it's usually parked on a double yellow line. Bar-stewards.

Yep, I've seen them parked on the zebra crossing zig-zags in LL, which is an endorsable police offence.

I have just seen one driving towards the goose green roundabout and tapping out on his machine at the same time - trying to get a lorry unloading outside the EDT. I was driving in the oppo direction and was not on the ball enough to get his reg no

Traffic wardens are there to enforce the rules, not to make judgements about whether something is dangerous. If you park somewhere you are not supposed to park then it is an "inappropriate place".

Of course I agree there are many instances where they tickets placest that are not against the rules.

can you imagine how hard it is to recruit/keep traffic wardens?? Of course they wont be punished. But then there must be such a high turnover of them that proper and correct training just gets lost in the mix. I don't know any traffic wardens but I don't suppose many of them last more than a few months, what a bad news job to have to do, it must be quite soul destroying.......poor things.(arf arf)

My boyfriends mum was a traffic warden for a few months. Dealing with abuse all day long is just horrible, they're only human. Not that I'm saying anyone on here has been rude to them.

Hello all. Thought you might like some definitions - the Southwark Parking Attendants (PA)- who ticket yellow lines. The Metropolitan Police Traffic Wardens (black and yellow) and then the Traffic PCSO'S - who both enforce Red Routes (and have a couple of Met tickets like "Unnecessary Obstruction" and three FPN?s (3 points on your licence) offences - zig zags, dangerous position and double white lines.

The PA?s tend to be paid the minimum wage, plus a work return bonus - ?x per hour for number of tickets they do. Great incentive. If a ticket is ?illegal? and is successfully appealed it does not effect their pay. So? doing tickets that get appealed is kind of win-win situation for them ? they get paid and you get off. They are monitored and will eventually get brought to book if that is all they do mind.

Met Traffic Wardens and Traffic PCSO?s get no financial incentive ? although their supervisors like to see a ?work return? to justify their salaries. Come back after an 8/9hr shift with nothing to show and questions do get asked. Red Route enforcement is now off the political priority list and Bus Reassurance is the big buzz.

I think if a warden issues a ticket incorrectly and the appeal is succesful, their wages should get deducted.

They'd still have an incentive to issue tickets, but they'd also have an incentive to get it right, rather than slapping tickets on cars left right and centre.

Wwell I wish more people would get ticketed when they park on the zigzags outdside Heber! I hae mailed the police and the council about this.
