summerjt
Read this one with interest, thanks everyone for your contributions. I read Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" recently. A school in New York was described that has a unique approach to education (well I thought it was quite interesting and hadn't heard of it before). It's called The Equity Project Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7792-best-snob-post-of-2009-now-with-added-wriggle/page/5/#findComment-244436 Share on other sites
candj
Sounds like the state school system of Switzerland where teachers are all paid very competitive salaries and as a result teaching attracts very bright professionals. Seems like a no brainer but suppose it's all down to public funds, sadly. Peckhamgatecrasher
Here's a snob post: If I was paid 125K p/a, I think I'd make sure I knew what sabbatical meant before using the word. candj
PGC - In the States, sabbaticals are breaks teachers/professors take, usually about a year. Do they they not have them here? It seemed to be worded correctly. Peckhamgatecrasher
The magic number is seven - not five or six! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7792-best-snob-post-of-2009-now-with-added-wriggle/page/5/#findComment-244510 Share on other sites
candj
Oh I see!I didn't realise there was a magic number!I thought that 'sabbatical' was derived from the word sabbath meaning rest (on the seventh day), not a rest taken every seven years. You learn something new every day. Peckhamgatecrasher
I was just being snotty - I had a severe hangover this morning.BTW, in the Church of England, priests are entitled to six weeks off (in addition to statutory hols) after seven years', and three months after 14 years' service. candj
Sorry about the hangover, I was being pedantic. Would rather be a teacher than a priest on that note...
