Hi Peckhamboy,

Grove Vale - the latest is that the proposed changes have been hugely changed and the raised treatment will no longer happen. Shame when I requested this I was ignored last year and it took an 800 person petition for common sense to prevail.

Sadly in an attempt to please the council leader has stated he'll look into a bus layby at the bus stop outside 50 Grove Vale. Such laybys cause buses delays. Hopefully council officers will successfully explain he's proposing to bugger up all bus journeys northbound through East Dulwich.

As East Dulwich cllrs we've been asked whether we think the community would like a gap before more Southern Gas Network (SGN) after the extended event Lordship Lane disruption.

The next planned works are 20 July To November Norcroft Gardens to 208 Friern Roas and 20 July to October Peckham Rye to 40 Friern Road.

16 weeks seems outlandish and I've queried this length of works.

The former would include Etherow Street which has the entrance to St.Anthony's RC school and requested that any worksonly last and take place during school holidays to maximise child safety and disruption during the busiest traffic periods.

What do you think?

Two interesting planning applications that i've requested to be decided by local councillors:

11-AP-1705 Foresters Arms (The Bishop) pub, 25-27 Lordship Lane. Advertisement consent for 12m x 8m advertising hoarding on the scaffolding while they redevelop the building.

11-AP-1730 Shell Service Station, 112-122 Gipsy Hill. College ward Police have told me in the past that this and the other Shell Service station on Crystal Palace Parade are circa 20% of all crime inthe area.

Any comments about these application should be emailed to [email protected]

After council officers challenged SGN about the length of works it transpires two main phases each with two sub phases:

18/07/2011 - 09/11/2011 Norcroft Gardens to 206

25/07/2011 - 31/10/2011 Peckham Rye to 42

24/10/2011 - 24/02/2012 42 to 126

04/11/2011 - 17/02/2012 126 to 206

Southern Gas Networks have now told ocuncil officials they have a 15 year plan. I've asked the chair of the Dulwich Community Council whether we can invite SGN to talk about that plan and its impacton our area ASAP.

SGN have been 'invited' to visit council officials to explain why they can't compress the works or as I requested why if more works were done in the summer its wouldn't be quicker.

Hi

how is the plan for the two new crossings in lordship Lane going?

I live just off the Goose Green roundabout and have recieved a consultation letter with a very good map, I have replied and fully support the plan, and I have got to say what a good map/plan it was, my comliments to the Council Officers who organise this sort of consultation, it was easy to understand.

Hi

i know Southwark have collections of food waste in some areas now, is this being rolled out to other areas soon? I recycle glass, paper, tins etc and I live in a conveted house into 2 flats and we have two green househould waste bins, and I was talking to my upstairs nieghbour and we agreed that if Southwark collected food waste seperatly (weekly) we would only need one green weelie bin between us.

Over the past few months I have been offered the most absurd advice by Southwark Education Services. Admittedly these conversations have been over the phone, when they take the call they describe themselves as Southwark Education services so I assume they have the knowledge to answer my questions.

In March one person told me "I had until the 31st August to appeal my school offer" INCORRECT

Yesterday whilst preparing for an appeal I called many LA's to see if they had a school that offered school places using the random allocation system. When I called Southwark they "no" and he even referred my call to a manager who also said "no". Again this information is INCORRECT.

This department is supposed to provide support to parents by giving the correct information, is there anything you can do to highlight this problem within Southwark as I am certain I'm not the only one to get duff information from them!

Hi Fatherjack,

The councillor Education Scrutiny committee is going to discuss school admissions on 28 June 7pm at Southwark Town Hall. If you have specific examples and it clearly sounds as though you do then can I request that you email the committee chairperson [email protected] so that the committee can investigate all issues.

Hi redjam,

I'm afraid you're outside the consultation area of from memory 250m radious from Lordship Lane.

Hi Freddy1929,

The planned rollout of food waste recycling is Autumn. So you might want to share a brown bin for food waste. BUT the non food waste will be collected fortnightly. So probably best to see how it works out and then if you decide you only need one green wheelie bin call 020 7525 2000 and ask for the spare one to be removed. You'll also have the oppotunity to have a blue wheelie bin for all your recyclables. Probably best to for your two flats to start with one blue wheelie bin and then request another if you both find you need them.

On Lordship Lane I'll pass on your kind comments to the council officials concerned - thanks for taking the trouble to make them.

Hi redjam,

I'm afraid you're outside the consultation area of from memory 250m radious from Lordship Lane.

But Fellbrigg Road is only just over 100m from Lordship Lane... I guess it depends which point on LL you're measuring it from but I'd have thought we'd have been within 250m of the proposed crossing too. Anyway, no matter - just means you've lost another 'yes' vote!

Hi redjam,

Sorry you've missed out this time. Guess council officers doing it 100m from each proposed crossing. It's always a fine judgement between maximising consultation and cost. Fingers crossed people agree with you and me!

Gas works in Friern Road.

I assume this will involve closing LL - Etherow Street off for 2 way traffic. What is the plan for the buses? 16 weeks does sound excessive - although when you think that 2 men working M- F 8 - 4pm, with stoppages for rain, tea breaks and discussions around the 'hole', and long absences from the work site - could be about right!!

if it takes x men to lay piping x feet 16 weeks, how many weeks would it take 10 men to do the same work?

I used to hate those sums in my maths lessons

Hi Pugwash,

I've just received a call from the council manager who assures me that he will be challenging SGN to complete the works 8 weeks quicker ie finish before Xmas OR stop works 31 November until the new year ot give peopel some respite over Xmas.

It is complicated by keeping gas supplies in place throughout while replacing them.

Freddy1929 - we're in the pilot food waste collection area at the moment. It's great - we had two green bins but now only need one. There's also no need to separate recyclable stuff.

James - I assume this pilot has been successful then? If so, can we swap our two blue boxes for a big blue one? Also, small issue, but is there anyway the council can give out the kitchen caddy bags that have the handles again - the recent ones we've receive don't have handles and so are very difficult to tie up.

No. Garden waste and food waste (which you tie up in biodegradable bags) go in one bin (your current brown garden one if you have one). All other recyclables - paper, glass, cardboard, foil, aerosols, plastic etc - go in the another (your blue box or, like James says, you may get a new blue wheelie).

Sorry for the confusion.

    • As a result of the Horizon scandal it now seems very clear that the Post Office management are highly disingenuous and not be trusted!  There needs to be a campaign launched to challenge the threatened closure, unless the Post Office can demonstrate beyond doubt that the branch is loss making - and even then it could argued that better management could address this. I hope the local media take this up and our MP  and a few demonstrations outside wouldn’t do any harm. Bad publicity can be very effective!
    • Unlikely. It would take a little more than a bit of Milton to alter the pH of eighty-odd thousand gallons of water.
    • It actually feels as though what I said is being analytically analysed word by word, almost letter by better. I really don't believe that I should have to explain myself to the level it seems someone wants me to. Clearly someones been watching way too much Big Brother.
    • Sadly they don't do the full range of post office services
