So then perhaps if the pub made an effort to be respectful towards its neighbours then this wouldn't be an outcome.

So in other words you do want the pub closed unless it does what you want - though you haven't actually said what it is you want.

No not at all, (believe it or not I feel they are an important part of the community).

My issues are only around the noise that is caused which would be considered as 'statutory nuisance'.

I don't want to get into a detailed, critical debate as this is a heated topic that always comes up on the forum.

All I want is for the pub and its neighbours to all get along!

Well, it seems a bit much to me to be traducing the reputation of an establishment and calling for action which could very well put its licence at risk without being prepared to give details of your reasons for so doing. Perhaps, as you're not prepared to do so, it would be better to put your concerns to local councillors via private message rather than doing down the Cherry Tree's reputation on a public forum without saying what they're, in your opinion, supposed to have done wrong.

I think the comments - publicly available online via the planning application, clearly detail the issues that the local residents have. I'm not sure what more information you need?

They mainly detail why people think the hostel would be a bad idea, something with which I'm in broad agreement. The other complaints seem to be a) not shutting the garden at 10pm - something I've never seen happen in thirty odd visits this year and b) the behaviour of patrons (if they are patrons, it's all too easy to see bad behaviour near a pub and assume they've come from the pub, rather than having just got off the train or bus or been drinking in the park) after closing time. I've never been quite clear as to what a pub is supposed to do about this, send out behaviour monitors? Antisocial behaviour in public places is a matter for the police. Not, as stated above, that I've observed such behaviour despite living nearby and being regularly in the vicinity at closing time.

You detail that you have been in the pub maybe 30 times at closing time over the course of the year?

So the other 93% of days (335 days of the year) when you are not there, how do you know what the situation is with noise and not closing the garden. I don't feel this is a representative example?

Really? You don't think going into an establishment thirty odd times in a row without ever seeing the behaviour complained of demonstrates anything? Righty-ho, I think I'll leave you to it. I'm obviously very lucky, or maybe my naturally authoritative schoolmasterly demeanour makes everyone behave!

Rendelharris,

Let us, in the spirit of Christmas and trying to be neighbourly in a small community respectfully agree to disagree.

Merry Christmas and I would encourage you to attend the Cherry Tree more so your naturally authoritative schoolmasterly demeanour makes everyone behave!

Hi James, could you possibly put up a link of the meetings for the Grve Tavern public meetung held in October i cannot fund it anywhere. As you are probably aware, there is great concern for the homeless man who has been living there especially after the fire. I would realy appreciate what the outcome was of the public meeting and what action if any is being taken by Southwark council. Thank you.

Hi Jeanne,

Southwark Council have decided to move online and not accept problems and issues by telephone.

The online form - https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/showform.asp

During Christmas and New Year collection dates have changed. After Christmas they're two days later than normal and after New Year a day later than normal and return tot normal from next Monday.

If your compliant is about a collection issue such as rubbish being strewn around the area then please email me with the details at [email protected]

Hi James,

Wondering whether you can help. I've already logged this via the Southwark reporting thingamy but never sure how successful such a route is...

The Curry Cabin is getting progressively worse with it's waste management that it's getting completely ridiculous now.

Over the past couple of weeks they have been leaving the huge rubbish bins on the pavement at the rear of their property on Chesterfield Grove. The rubbish in the bins have been piled to extreme levels and now this morning at least 20+ blacks bags have been left on the pavement (see pictures attached). It could be argued that the bags are not theirs but on closer inspection the bags have food containers inside and other items they use.

I'm sure you'll agree this is not acceptable.

Not only is this blocking the pavement to pedestrians there are also huge concerns for health/environment. Much of the time bags are kept within their own property (piled up high) for long periods of time. Not only is the stench from the rotting waste vile it's attracting vermin and also any liquid waste leaks out on to the pavement.

This latest action is horrible.

It would certainly seem they are failing to act as a responsible business.

ETA: the pictures were taken early this morning and the rubbish is still there now.

Hi KK,

Those pictures show extreme dumping.

I had reported twice over the holiday periods the Curry Cabin Eurobin being left on the pavement. But these what must be 50 black bins bags of rubbish are a different order of magnitude.

I have asked council officers to sort this out and take enforcement action against whoever dumped these bags there.

    • The plans The developer Berkeley Homes have submitted a planning application to redevelop the Aylesham Centre close to the junction of Peckham High Street and Rye Lane, containing Morrison’s supermarket, car park, & petrol station, Aylesham shopping arcade and most of that side of Rye Lane between Hanover Park and Peckham High Street. The application is for a mixed housing, retail, leisure and commercial development, in buildings ranging from 5 to 20 storeys. Impact Local people who have studied the detailed plans think that the development would dominate the historic town centre which has evolved since the 18th century, and would ruin the Conservation Area which was awarded in 2011 'to preserve and enhance its character and appearance'. More than 65% of the homes to be built in this unimaginative over-bearing development will be unaffordable by most people who live in Southwark, and provide inadequate open and green space for this part of Peckham. Need for discussion This is such an important issue for south London that it needs wide discussion before the Council Planning Committee takes its decision (not before next Spring). A free on-line talk and discussion to clarify the heritage issues we all need to think about is being held on Monday 11th November 7-8.30pm. All will be welcome. Please register on this link: https://Defend-Peckhams-Heritage-2024.eventbrite.co.uk There are several other key issues raised by the plans which are being examined in the Aylesham Community Action (ACA) campaign. You can find the link to all that and other useful information here: www.linktr.ee/acapeckham The zoom session is being arranged by Peckham Heritage the local group that has grown from the community work alongside the restoration of nine historic buildings in Peckham High Street through the Townscape Heritage Initiative. We hope that EDF members who value local heritage will be able to attend the session to hear and take part in the discussion, and report back to this topic so the discussion can continue.
