James, I'd be more inclined to use it if the evening opening was extended to 8pm. It's handy for the station so might attract more commuters on their way home.

James - apparently the council have told Val's shop (top of LL) to get rid of their fruit and veg display - see separate thread for details http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,397438- given them 20mins notice. Any reason why that you can think of? Or is it just the new sainsbury's dont want the competition... Cheers

Sorry for cross posting but this is probably a better thread

Anyone know when the rubbish vans are next coming around? We've been forced to fill our brown bin due to green one being full and now that's full also. It's at least 3 weeks since they last collected!

Hi nutty,

Where do you live.

All normal rubbish and recyclnig collections are meant to be proceeding. The only collections not proceeding are brown bins (garden waste) ones and bulk refuse collections - the staff have been diverted to help with regular rubbish and recycling collections which are taking longer than normal.

Tell me your address and I'll ensure they get to you asap - and empty the brown bin that you've used for regular rubbish.

Tonight is surgery night.

If you're around East Dulwich and have any issues you think I can help with feel free to pop along to the East Dulwich Community Centre on Darrell Road between 7pm and 8pm.

Whatever it is I'll try to help.

Hi tommy,

Adys Road forms the borders between two other wards - South Camberwell and The Lane.

Every year Southwark spends around ?5M on road, pavement and street lighting repairs and upgrades.

Roughly half of that spend is now decided locally by local councillors. So every year each ward has ?33,333 for road and pavement repairs beyond pot hole filling, each ward also has roughly ?25,000 for street lighting.

For Adys Road you should contact South Camberwell and The Lane councillors and ask them to use some of the ?66,667 that between them they have to spend each financial year.

Hi James, any news on this as per your post of 14 October? Many thanks

Hi James, I don't think this has been answered yet but I would be quite interested in the resposnse, as would quite a few other parents. I appreciate it isn't the easier of subjects to work out, but was just wondering if you'd got anywhere on this? Many thanks

Re Landells Road,

Rubbish situation is annoying. I have a small wheelie bin as i try to recycle as much as possible. Problem is, there are also 4 people living in my house so when the rubbish isnt collected for 2 weeks, I am overspilling.

Is there a collection tomorrow?

I emailed James this morning and bin men arrived 2 hours later. Efficient!

With such a cold winter it has really brought to light those homes where residents don't have loft insulation.

If you don't have loft insulation you may be entitled to free or heavilly discounted loft insulation via one of the following routes:

- 0800 358 6668 (Creative Energy Network)

- 0800 512 012

- 0845 070 5059

Southwark Council insulation.

During January/February the following trees will be planted - funded by revenue funding.

Southwark tree officers are looking to also install so street trees on Pellatt Road at the western end.

Grit bin russling. I kid you not.

Lambeth Council has had a spate of grit bin thefts. 101 so far. Each grit bin costs over ?165. So that's a lot of money has been stolen. Southwark Council has found that its grit bins get used for rubbish, stolen, etc so relies on a different apporahc of depositing grit to a location as needed - harder to steal a pile of grit than a grit bin.

If you see anyone removing a grit bin do report it via 999.

    • Surprised at how many people take the 'oooh it's great it got approved, something is better than nothing' view. This is exactly Southwark council's approach, pandering to greedy developers for the absolute bare minimum of social and affordable housing. It's exactly why, under their leadership, only a fraction of social and affordable housing has been built in the borough - weirdly Mccash chose to highlight their own failures in his 'near unprecedented' (yet unbiased 😆) submission. All the objectors i have met support redevelopment, to benefit those in need of homes and the community - not change it forever. The council could and should be bolder, demand twice the social and affordable housing in these schemes, and not concede to 8 storeys of unneeded student bedsits. If it is a question of viability, publically disclose the business plan to prove how impossible it might be to turn a profit. Once the thing is built these sites can never be used for social or affordable housing. The council blows every opportunity, every time. Its pathetic. Developers admitted the scale was, in this instance, not required for viability. The student movements data seemed completely made up. The claim that 'students are taking up private rentals' was backed up with no data. There is empty student housing on denmark hill, needs to be fixed up but it's there already built. The council allows developers years to build cosy relationships with planners such that the final decision is a formality - substantiated objections are dismissed with wooly words and BS. Key meetings and consultations are scheduled deliberately to garner minimal engagement or objection. Local councillors, who we fund, ignore their constituents concerns. Those councillors that dare waiver in the predetermination are slapped down. Not very democratic. They've removed management and accountability by having no nomination agreement with any of the 'many london universities needing accommodation' - these direct lets MAKE MORE MONEY. A privately run firm will supposedly ensure everyone that those living there is actually a student and adheres to any conduct guidelines. There's no separation to residents - especially to ones on their own development. Could go on... We'll see how many of the 53 social/affordable units that we're all so happy to have approved actually get built.
    • I am looking for 1 unit which is working for £50 cash. Thank you
    • Can’t recommend the company enough, great service.
