Galileo
Hi allSo our toddler (2yrs 4 months) is to move into her first "big girl" bed at the end of the month because the baby (5 months) will be moving out of her bednest in my room and into the cot in the nursery. We have acquired a lovely Ikea toddler bed off the EDF (thank you!) and I then bought a single bedding set on sale from Debenhams because it has lots of cheerful elephants on it. However Hubs then queried (once the bedding had been delivered!) whether a single duvet might be a little large and don't we need a special toddler-sized duvet? So, should we go for a toddler sized duvet? Or should we get a normal single duvet and tuck the extra under the end of the bed to help keep the covers on at night? (The toddler is currently in a 6 - 18 month grobag because she's a tiddler and has only recently started wearing 18 - 24 month clothes). Is a toddler pillow worth it, or do we just get a normal one? Finally, any recommendations for duvets / pillows - haven't bought any new ones for ages and we've rather run out of money on maternity leave so need to make good "value" choices. Also, any tips for making the transition would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help. Saffron
We used a rather flat regular pillow and low tog single duvet with our toddler bed. It worked fine. Pickle
We had cotbed bedding for our first child, but went straight to single size for the other two, as they don't really stay in a toddler bed for long - buying the smaller duvet covers etc can be expensive. For our youngest we got a basic single duvet/pillow/mattress protector set from John Lewis, it's good for the price. You may find your daughter doesn't want/need to use a pillow to start with, I found it was only as the kids got older that they started using their pillows. goldilocks
Pillows - I bought a john lewis cot pillow for my first once he was older. He's 4.5 now and still sleeps on his face on the mattress so I wouldn't bother buying anything specific as that wasn't really money well spent. My daughter just has a fairly flat normal pillow - she doesn't use it either! I think that an alternative to cot bed sized duvets which probably fit toddler beds well is using a single duvet sideways and wrapping it under the mattress to stop them falling out!
