I mailed Southwark libraries about their lack of recently published parenting books and they agreed to buy some, inc Gill Rapley on BLW. It's a relaly good book! You can now order it from the library

I'm past the weaning stage now, thanks, though I did get the book out and read it once the library got it in stock. It's a relaly good book, isn't it? Sure someone will jump at your offer.

Yep.

The research points to a reduction in heart disease later in life etc for children weaned at 6m+ in any case.. so don't start at 5m from that point of view.. plus it's SO much work, specially in the early days. leave it as long as possible and let them do it themselves is my motto.

I did mash/puree some stuff and mix and match it with lots of finger foods.

Talking of baby lead weaning...

BabyVerds is 5.5 months old too and I'm just getting her used to the highchair, ready for finger foods.

But today I went to the health visitor, who said to give baby rice at 5 months. I'm really disappointed, as I've just read Gill Rapley's book and it makes sense to me! I don't think a bit of baby rice is going to fill her up, and I was looking forward to carrot and brocolli trees, etc... Did anyone else get all kinds of conflicting advice?

No why do they say that when the DOH advice is 6m? And research shows waiting till 6m reduces the incidence of obesity/ heart disease as an adult?

Stick to 6m, and start with pieces of soft veg.

grr, don't get me started on HVs' crap advice...just spoke to a friend recently whose baby was premature, and who's going back to work at 6 months,a nd they advised her to wean at 4 months so it's 'all sorted out by the time she's in nursery'. For a baby who was really early!

    • It wasn't a rumour, the salon had closed when I posted here. Regarding the Post Office, as I said go and ask them.
    • My annoyance Is with the fact that the gym is being closed for 5 weeks for refurbishment but we dont have an option to freeze our membership if the only facility we use is the gym. Apparently Peckham gym is closed at the same time for refurbishment which I think is pretty stupid. Therefore the nearest gym for all the members from ED leisure centre and Peckham leisurecentre is the one in Camberwell . I lament the everyone active days..at least I could attend gyms near to work and outside Southwark
