Dulwich61
I'd been a regular customer of Target Arms for quite a few years before I moved to ED in 1993, buying mainly decommissioned firearms from the period 1890-1950, and continued to put my money over the counter there right up until it closed around 2008. Proprietor Dennis was (still is - he lives in Beckenham) a knowledgeable collector, and always happy to share his knowledge if you took an interest: though his typical window displays of knives, swords, guns and other military hardware were likely not to everyone's taste. It was a severe hike in rent and business rates which persuaded him to quit LL and go solely online. KidKruger
"William Rose building was once the pine furniture shop run by the late Trevor who later worked at Bells I think."Oh I didn't know Trevor had passed away, that's really sad to hear, very friendly guy - and such a hard worker. RIP.Any story to that ? i.e. was it an accident or was he poorly for some time ?I probably haven't seen him around Bell's for a couple of years. lavender27
Near where William Rose Butchers is in 1994 there was a marvellous furniture shop, cannot remember the name though, I still have a white shelf unit I bought from them, and I don't want to part with it, as the owner paid me a compliment and said , I was a young mummy, (the relevance of this to EDF I don't know) but it made my day. Lynne
A charity shop (can't remember which charity) on North X Rd near the junction with Crystal Palace Rd. Now converted into a house. Also Cramers, the watch repair shop a bit lower down. A model/war games shop near Emily's fish and chip shop. The staff were so slow, they would speak to the next customer and then disappear for 10 or 15 minutes. Lynne
There was a militeria shop on LL, Sue, but I remember my boys spending their pocket money in a very small model shop near the fish and chip shop. Penguin68
There was a militeria shop on LLTarget Arms - uniforms and equipment, edged weapons, firearms (made safe), air guns and ammunition, model soldiers, flags, badges etc. Some very interesting (some very weird) customers and stock. Gone with the other LL antique and second hand shops, of which there were many. Lasted longer than most.
