I attach an image of the wall and painting side by side. Compare them and you will be able to see the connection. Lady Digby died in suspicious circumstances, illustrated by the beautiful young rose torn apart on her bed. Van Dyck copied her accurately but added that rose as a symbol of the destruction of love and beauty. MadC picked up on that symbolism and painted only the rose realistically. It means more when you know this stuff. Im trying to sort out some sort of little notice to have on the wall showing the original Van Dyck. DulwichFox
Thank you for your post IngridB I'm sorry, but still fail to see any connection.. ? Antony Van Dyck was indeed a fine talented artist.. The piece at the top of Barry Rd. is colourful and nicer than the Bee. I prefer to observe it as an abstract and not look at it with any pretentious views on what is supposed to represent. Trying to read into it things that aren't there. Just enjoy it.. DuncanW
Foxy - you enjoy it however it works best for you - but not sure it's fair to call the views expressed above pretentious.
