Angharad_L
Jus thought I'd give a shout out to Boulangerie Jade for having the best and most consistently good croissants in East Dulwich. Developed a craving for them while pregnant (which has persisted since I gave birth 3 months ago) and therefore have been trying out all the local cafes since then! Duck Egg's croissants were also good - but once I had a v stale one there. It was a v sad day. French House was ok, and Trio (Bellenden Road) did a good one that they warmed up for me once. However, on other days they haven't been the best. Thought it was in the community spirit to pass on this essential information. Huggers
Lidl fresh croissants are fantastic, at 29pence a pop, if you want some to eat at home. Angharad_L
I don't know what you're moaning about DirtyBox, these are the important issues of the day.Jah Lush, I've had the Mirror and the Sun on the phone all day in a bidding war for the exclusive on my croissant investigation. However, I'm really holding out for an offer from The Guardian or the Times. Will definitely try Barry's croissants! 55p! That's a bargain. Don't let me down Bazza. DaveR
This a serious matter, esp as both businesses are v local to me.I like both Barrys and B Jade croissants, but they are different creatures. No criticism of Barrys, but theirs are mass produced items, though of decent quality, and nicely flaky, but the winning point is that in the mornings they are indeed generally still warm from the oven.B Jade croissants are an altogether more substantial and, dare I say, it artisan affair; high quality ingredients and contrasting crispy/chewy textures. An honourable mention to the Blackbird Bakery - more B Jade-like but overall somewhat softer and lighter. Is that poncey enough for everyone? Peckhamgatecrasher
What's wrong with you people? Don't you know that pain aux raisins are far superior to croissants? Angharad_L
So far investigations have solely focused upon the classic croissant. No investigations have been conducted on the almond variety. However, on the pain au raisin front.... La Scala are very good. Barry keeps cropping up... Must investigate further. goosey-goosey
You are all wrong. The very best croissants I have tasted in the UK, as good as anything in France, are sold by The General Store on Bellenden Rd. Not exactly East Dulwich but worth the detour. I believe they are only available on weekends.
