DV camcorder tapes to be converted

Hi just wondering if anyone knows of a service or how to get my dv tapes converted to dvd or saved onto digital format on computer. Our camcorder does not seem to allow this to happen, we've tried different software, cables and different computers. Local services like Snappy Snaps seem quite expensive as well.

Hi. Not really in to it now but i do remember a bit we did in IT ENGINEERING. :)

YOU can either do this through dvd player or computer. I have tried this and it worked. Why pay someone when u can try urself as its v simple .

If you have a?DVD recorder this is the most simple method. Just plug the output of cable of your?MiniDV camcorder?into one of the available inputs on your DVD recorder.

Mind you ; many models of DVD recorders have input connections available on the front specifically for connecting camcorders. You may want to take advantage of this, or you may want to take the trouble to use a rear connection ? depending on what type of output your camcorder provides.

Once you?ve made the connection, the rest is a snap. Put a recordable DVD in the recorder (it may take a moment for it to read and load the DVD), place a DV you would like to duplicate in the DV camcorder. Now select the Input on the recorder that the camcorder is connected.

If you are unsure, press play and toggle through the inputs looking for the video signal coming from the camera. Once you find it, stop the camcorder and rewind it to the desired starting place (if necessary). Now press record on the DVD recorder and press play on the camcorder. Keep going until you have recorded all the DV tapes you wish to transfer.

Hope that works xx all the best

Ok thanks will give it a go, although we have tried linking up both computers through different firewire cables with pinnacle and movie maker installed. Canon support said that it's sounds like firewire connection faulty on camcorder but as the camcorder old now they don't even repair them. Snappy snap charge minimum of ?25!

Stanley's always used to be the go to place for getting stuff like this done commercially http://www.stanleysonline.co.uk/. Doubt it will be cheap though, wherever you get it done.

The method described above should work, I've done this before. If it's not working with your camera maybe see if you can borrow someone else's miniDV camera or player? I'd offer but sold mine a little while ago.
