For those that were speculating that karters new "Mum" secret Coffee Bar is going to be a Monmouth I sadly have to tell you it's not. See below for confirmation:

-----------------------------------------------

Hello EDKiwi,

Thanks for getting in touch, it?s so nice to hear you enjoy our coffee. Sorry to tell you the new East Dulwich caf? is not going to be a Monmouth shop. We are actually in the process of building a bigger roasting space so that in the future we may be able to open another site, at the moment we simply do not have the capacity to supply another.

I hope you?re able to pop into the Borough site with ease.

Kind regards,

Rosanna

So for those of you keen on a Monmouth I would start petitioning them so they are well aware that we would like their next premises to be here in good ol' ED!

Of course for those of you not in-the-know the bestest of the best coffee can only be found in one London suburb and that is SoHo, the home of Flat White; a kiwi owned and operated coffee bar.

Kiwi Barista's have got coffee making down to a fine art. I don't know why but they do, just to go BMC to find out as they have a Kiwi whipping up the coffee's in there.

Oh what I wouldn't give to have Flat White open their doors on LL or NCR. Mmmmmmm......Flat White coffee.....[aaarrrrrggggllllhhh] :)-D

A new "chain" is hoping to establish just such a thing in London, but not, yet, ED - a tea shop serving hot buttered toast at breakfast time, cream teas in the afternoon and a huge selection of teas - all served in china teapots using loose (no teabags) tea. Mint teas, gunpowder teas, green teas and proper breakfast tea. First, of what the owner / inventor hopes will be many, is just off Paternoster Sq next to St Pauls. I found it by accident and had a very soothing 40 inutes between two stressful meetings in London. Recommended.

The tea shop will be alot more than just a tea shop, other goodies too.

No. 6 LL is currently being bought by our friendly local landlord/developer it seems ( sorry, not me this time).Any guesses who the developer is ???I wonder how much the rent will be if it gets a3 use over the retail use, astronomical I would say in order to cover the repayments.

Macroban, How much do you reckon the rent will be ?? The sale price is over ?1m and has offices above...

I went up Lordship Lane on the bus yesterday, and for the first time I really noticed just how many food places there are. Now it's cool that you've got a bit of everything, and it's god to have healthy competition. Biut come on, another curry place?????

That said, they rarely look empty, so I guess there is still a need for more more more more morrrreeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem, sorry.

>>Hurrah - another Curry House - just what we need.<<

Actually we really could do with a quality Indian place - something like the Babur in Brockley - as distinct from yet another boil/steam rubbishy meat-and-pour-on-the-sauce sort of outfit...

You cleary do love the place, but don't seem to have spotted it's been open about 6 weeks now....

I think the point we are all objecting to here is that we don't want LL turning into the same sort of bland high street you see everywhere else. Bigger business mean high rents for the shops which pushes out the local businesses as prices rise. Economics, which sadly changes areas to change.

Yes - Tandoori Nights is the exception, the food there is very nice! Still not tried the Ganapti (sp?) over in Peckham though...

    • I am sure what the new plan is but who knows how the postal service will work from here onwards
    • My experience is that my local letter box does have week-day-ly collections - but I think very early in the morning, not at the old 'around 5.00pm' times. There are several daily collections from the box outside the Forest Hill Road sub-post office. I don't think the 'Monday' tab is now ever changed. Mail collections from boxes have got nothing to do with the service we (don't) get from the Peckham Delivery Office. Your Wednesday 12th posting would probably only have been collected on Thursday 13th, if it was posted after 9.00am. If it was being delivered in East Dulwich (where the Peckham DO does come into play) then getting it by the following Tuesday is probably par for the course.
    • Are there no daily collections from post boxes any more? On Wednesday Feb 12 I posted a Valentine's Card in the postbox which is about 20 metres from our house to make sure it arrived by Feb 14 (yes I know I could've put it thru letterbox but that's not as romantic is it). After I posted it I noticed the little metal thingy said "Monday" but I thought this must be a mistake and had not been changed. However, Valentine's Day came and went and no card arrived. In fact it arrived on the following Tuesday, Feb 18 so I'm guessing the Monday collection metal thingy was correct. Has it ever been announced officially that there are no longer daily collections from letterboxes? I remember a time, not even that long ago, when the red postman pat van would pull up at least twice a day, every weekday.
    • My lovely tuxedo cat, Rexy, has been missing since Wednesday which is very out of character. Rodwell Road area, SE22. He is a rescue cat so really quite timid with people he doesn’t know. If you spot him, could you please contact me? Many thanks. He is chipped and neutered.  Photos attached.
